Who/what are the 2 witnesses symbolizing in Reve 11.
The powers they have are similar to those of Moses and Elijah, whom appeared with Jesus at the transfiguration. Discuss........
Matthew 17:3
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
Mark 9:4
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Luke 9:30
And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
Revelation 11:
1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and one said, Rise! and measure! the Sanctuary of God, and the Altar, and them that worship therein.
2 And the Court, which is without the Sanctuary, be casting out! outside, and measure it not;
for it hath been given unto the Nations:
and the holy City shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3 And I shall be giving unto My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies:
and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy:
and have power over waters to turn them to blood,
and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
Exodus 7:
19 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood. And there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone.' ”
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD commanded.
So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants.
And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
1Kings 17:1
And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”
James 5:17
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain;
and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
