One reason I believe but have some doubt about the bible is because man found dinosaur fossils and other things that confirm the Earth is older than the bible says. So if the bible is true, why doesn't it mention Dinosaurs? If it's true, then why does it say the earth is only thousands of years old?

The Bible is about theology not natural history.

As for dinosaur fossils , how are they, or actual dinosaurs for that matter, relevant to the life of humans either physically or spiritually?

Not according to the Bible. This is a common but erroneous excuse.

Where does the Bible claim to be a book about natural history? Is there some preamble I am unaware of stating "This is a book of natural history"?

    1. Bible does not say the age of the planet or of the Universe

    2. Bible was written by ancient tribal israel (at least the old testament) and therefore is not a good source about natural history, cosmology, biology and similar. They were inspired in their spiritual message, not in their worldview.

It is full of natural history. Have you never read it before?

I have studied it enough to know it is not a book about natural history but a book about God and His relation to His people. Perhaps simply reading it is not enough to find out what it is about.

In the Bible they talked in Hebrew, Greek etc etc not about the 19centuary word dinosaur but about the very ancient word 'dragons'. If you read an old authorised version you will come across this.

    Otherwise start investigate answersingenesis.
Yes it is fashionable to laugh at Key Ham etc.

But they stand for the Authority and Reliability of the Bible. Those who laugh at them don't, or why are they laughing.

I've heard from some people that the method scientists use to date dinosaurs is flawed and that dinosaurs are actually only thousands of years old. Another theory is that God created the world with the dinosaurs already dead and fossilized.

And another hypothesis is that we live in a simulation and nothing is real.

And another hypothesis is Bible is about spiritual history, not about physical history.

    And many other hypothesis.

As long as we keep the basic Christian creeds we can see the world in the way it seems to fit for us.

But its not possible to say that in this physical world huge dinosaurs lived thousands of years ago together with people.

There are a lot of things we will never know about the world or universe we live in. Science has taught us a lot of things, but we will never have the complete answer to all our questions. As the Lord spoke to Job: "“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?" (Job 38:4).

Were there dinosaurs on the earth 65 million years ago? Personally, I do not see why they were not. The physical evidence we have and the consensus of the scientific community seem to support that view. Whether they are right or wrong does not change anything for me. I quite like the ambiguity, the questions unanswered, the things we will never completely fathom or work out. It doesn't detract from my faith. If anything, it reminds me that the wisdom of our God is deeper than we will ever understand, his judgements unsearchable and his ways untraceable (Romans 11:33). It reminds me that our God is to be revered.

I have often been asked whether this view is supported by the Bible, but I simply point out that the scriptures are not primarily concerned with presenting scientific facts, but with God's redemptive plan for mankind, containing all things necessary for our salvation.

Nowhere does the Bible say that the world is only about 6000 years old. That is an interpretation first made by Bishop Ussher about 300 years ago based on some arbitrary criteria of his devising. The great mass of scientific evidence is that our planet is about 4 billion years old and that the universe itself is about 14 billion years old. The last non-avian dinosaurs died off in an extinction event some 63 million years ago. Human beings did not appear on the scene until about 62 million years later. There is solid evidence for all of this. I, like most other Christians, do not understand Genesis as literal but rather as a poetic allegory to be understood for its spiritual meanings.

No I don't believe we have been around that long, the oldest human corpse ever found is only 100k years old.

    Hi faith,

I've always been one to consider that when in doubt, God's word is true. I believe that the earth, the universe and all that is in them, is about 6,000 years old. I find that the Scriptures are quite clear on the matter, but because of the contradictory understanding of the scientific community, many who read the Scriptural account must somehow get the two to match up, or deny one or the other. Me, I'm for denying the works of man over the works of God.

You are correct, I believe, in understanding that there are some flaws in some of the assumptions made by man in formulating ages of the earth and universe. I also think that one very, very important point for believers to consider is that the creation event was as much a miracle of the work of God, as parting a sea so that water stood tall and unaided on both the right hand and left hand of the Israelites as they passed through. Just as much as science cannot 'prove' to me how water could suddenly stand unaided as described in the Scriptural account, science cannot 'prove' to me how and when the universe was created. Science cannot prove to me how a shadow cast by the sun went backwards ten steps or even stood still in the sky for nearly an entire day. Even for the sun to stand still in the sky for 10 minutes would be an impossible task for man to accomplish. However, the Scriptures declare to us that nothing is impossible for God.

As far as the dinosaur issue? If we do know that scientific dating methods are flawed, then why wouldn't that same flawed nature effect the 'scientific' account of dinosaurs? In the book of Job, there is actually a reference that would seem to be describing the large creatures that we know as 'dinosaurs'. This would indicate that Job knew of dinosaurs and that they likely lived during the same time as Job together upon the earth. Consider that in Job's day, there was a lot of uninhabited land upon the earth. It may well be that the entire North and South American continents were uninhabited.
It could also be that much of Russia and northern Europe were very lightly populated and also the island nations of Australia, New Zealand, etc.

Now, I readily admit that this is all just the musings of a warped and wicked human mind, but they are certainly possibilities to be considered by anyone seriously seeking wisdom as to the age of things and the truth of God's word as it applies to all of this study.

Anyway, for me, I believe that the creatures that we see displayed in our museums as dinosaurs were merely creatures who existed previously in the 6,000 year history of God's creation.

    God bless,
    In Christ, ted

The Bible doesn't say how old the earth is. Some people have attempted to infer a young age based upon counting genealogies and using their own interpretations of Scripture--but the Bible itself is completely silent on such things.

The Bible doesn't mention dinosaurs because those who wrote the Bible didn't know about them. It's the same reason the biblical writers don't mention Australia, the Americas, or Antarctica--landmasses which were unknown to the people who wrote the Biblical texts. There are a lot of things the Bible doesn't mention, there are lot of things the biblical writers did not know.

The Bible isn't a compendium of divinely revealed information. It is a collection of many different books which convey the story of God's work of redemption of the world through Jesus Christ. The Bible is about Jesus, not natural history, not science, etc. But Jesus, and the salvation we have in Him.

The Bible is true, it is science who is lying about evolution, the earth being a globe, and the existence of an outer space where planets, suns/stars, moons. etc.. exist in infinite space moving at thousands of mile an hour. Just one big satanic/science lie.

As for the dinosaurs the Bible does not give an account but they very well could be part of the fallen angelic attempt to corrupt Gods creation bringing about the nephilim as Genesis 6:12 states.

So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

    all flesh was corrupted.

Human colonization of our world certainly took time --- we first left Africa 60-100K YBP but by 50K YBP Europe and Asia and Australia were all reached and by 12K YBP the Americas were as well. New Zealand was just 1000 YBP and Hawaii just 600 YBP. We reached the moon 50 years ago but didn't stay to colonize.
