Nowhere. Immortality is not a property of a soul. But God can keep it alive for ever. I.e. the immortality is given by grace.

There's a rather gloomy reference to it in Matthew:

Mat 10:28 - “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

That's only gloomy for those who are and who remain lost.

All of God's Word IS LIGHT ETERNAL and JOY-GIVING , LIFE-GIVING
for
all Ekklesia who will be raised in resurrection to eternal life in JESUS !

Be afraid of Him who can destroy the soul, YES !

How does this mean the soul is immortal?

The meaning of it is that men can only kill the body with physical death but cannot kill the soul. The implication is that the soul continues on after the death of the body. Hence the body is mortal while the soul is immortal.

‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” (Matthew 22:32)

And Yahuweh is able to kill the body AND the soul - thus no more immortal soul then.

Most people are destined for destruction, not to live forever, according to Scripture.

Why do you say that? Is that biblical? The book of Ezekiel says that God/Jesus takes no pleasure when any one experiences first nor second death.

Or .... destroy means destroy. Not keep alive forever in torment.

Works quite well in conjunction with Romans 6:23: The soul that sins; it shall die.

The very definition of immortal is undying. You know, the precise opposite of what the above verse says the soul is capable of: death.

Can the Spirit, or Soul, Be Destroyed?

From the first page of the Bible until the last, Scripture consistently teaches that humans have an immaterial part that will last forever. It is not possible for the soul, or spirit, to be killed when the physical body is killed or dies. We will cite just a few examples of the biblical teaching on the subject.

It is the physical body that is not immortal; it returns to dust from which it came. It is the resurrected body that becomes immortal & incorruptible & will exist forever.

However, the soul & the spirit are the immaterial parts of man & they DEPART FROM THE PHYSICAL BODY AT PHYSICAL DEATH. They do not stay with it. This is taught in many places in Scripture.

And there is a Biblical distinction between physical breath & the spirit of man & the Spirit of God. This is also taught throughout the Scriptures. Physical breath stops at physical death. The spirit of man departs the body & returns to God. Those that were resurrected physically before the final resurrection, had their spirits & souls return back into their alive physical bodies. That is taught repetitively in Scripture as well.

Christians have today the indwelling Holy Spirit; He is with us forever & never leaves us. So where our soul, our human being goes, so goes the Holy Spirit.

Jesus taught no one can KILL the soul. It continues to exist after physical death.

The best example of these things is the life of Jesus Himself. He was a human being like us, besides being the Divine Son of the Triune God. He has a human spirit & a human body & a human soul. (conclusions of the Council of Chalcedon, 491AD).

At the same time Jesus' physical body died & He breathed his LAST BREATH, His spirit was committed into the Father's hands. At the SAME TIME FRAME, His body was placed into a tomb/grave. And at the SAME TIME FRAME

You're going to have to raise that in the Controversial Christianity forum. Annihilationism isn't allowed in this forum.

At the same time Jesus' physical body died & He breathed his LAST BREATH, His spirit was committed into the Father's hands. At the SAME TIME FRAME, His body was placed into a tomb/grave. And at the SAME TIME FRAME Jesus' SOUL WAS IN SHEOL/HADES, in the compartment there called Paradise or Abraham's Bosom or Gan Eden (garden of Eden as the prophets talked about), or as the Jews called it, the Abode of Bliss.

When Jesus rose again out from among the dead (departed), His spirit & His soul returned back into His resurrected body. He conquered death & His soul left Sheol/Hades. Hallelujah! And now we as Christians have the hope that 'to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.'

WE are ABSENT from the body. We are still existing. Glory!

Yeah, I know. Many Christians don't like hearing the hard truth that they won't get to see their enemies burn alive forever after all. It must be tough knowing that they will only be utterly destroyed, won't it?
