Evan Roberts left a coal mine to go to study in a seminary at the age of 26. He dropped out of the seminary to return to his home town of Loughor, England (Wales). He was supposed to have drawn 100,000 new converts to his church meetings and converted thousands more people already attending church. Pubs closed as alcoholism was reduced. The crime rate was cut in half. People were in his meetings late at night. Newspapers reported the Welsh Revival. Historians recorded the surging interest in Christianity while Evan Roberts was preaching. This video records some of the words and acts of Evan Roberts.

The Azusa Revival did not result in pubs being closed, or people being convicted of sin. It became iconic of the type of revivals that would follow.

These type of revivals tend to end when people start to complain about sin, and this dampens the "positive energy"

The Azusa Street Revival began in LA in 1906, two years after the Welsh Revival started. The Black pastor had taken classes in Christianity and had been living in a White Christian’s house. The two studied the Bible together. Members of the interracial congregation spoke out at times. Numerous healing miracles were reported. People left crutches and canes behind. There was crowd around the church trying to get in.

In 1914 the Assembly of God Church was founded in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They are one of several Pentecostal movement churches inspired by earlier revivals.

While Evan Roberts was attending seminary he heard a revival preacher that inspired his own preaching. Roberts said God was calling him to preach. There were earlier revivals dating all the way back to the preaching of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ. The Church described in Acts of the Apostles written by Luke was moved by the Spirit.
