1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Have you ever felt, in your struggles with sin, that you are fighting an impossible battle? That's because you are! It's only in Christ that we have the victory over sin;

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

We are free in Christ and have victory over sin, but only through His grace and power. We must cease from our own works (our battle against sin in the flesh) and enter into His rest:

Hebrews 4:10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.

Our struggle to resist sin is useless without Christ. We have to cease from our works and enter into His rest where the battle is already won. We have an enemy who is more powerful than we are, and is able to manipulate us into sinning without the supply for the Spirit of Jesus Christ. We need His strength to resist sin, period. We have to lay down our battle against sin under our own power and surrender it to the Lord. We simply need to stand in the victory that we already have. That's the secret; we don't have to fight to win a battle because it's already been won on the cross:

Colossians 2:13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
Colossians 2:14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Colossians 2:15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

We simply need to stand in the victory Jesus Christ has over all the power of the enemy, over sin and death. God has given us everything we need to resist the enemy:

Ephesians 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

The battle is simply that we would have faith in the promises and power of God. The shield of faith can protect us from *all* the flaming arrows of the enemy. Our faith in Jesus Christis what overcomes the world and where our victory begins.

1 John 5:4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
