That's probably correct to say, but if this happens and we all consider it to be terribly unfortunate, we must remember which party made it a reality by breaking with our nation's history and impeaching a president merely for winning his election. It is not, IOW, simply a development that is part of any civilization's life cycle or an inevitable consequence of something-or-other. :(
"Merely for winning an election" is getting shop-worn. As hard as it may be for you to believe, there are many people who are sincerely convinced that the President did wrong.

The problem is that Trump has done so many questionable things and pushed so hard against Congressional over site that there is no other option. Even if this doesn't remove him, this needs to be done so that the next President that decides to follow Trump in not allowing Congressional over site, should have pause to think it is a bad idea.

The problem is that Trump and republicans don't see congresses oversight power as legitimate and are openly defying their ability to call witnesses.

This step has in an of itself put to question the basic idea of the constitution as a governing document and it would be irresponsible for any sitting congress to sit by and allow that kind of power grab.

We are in fact in the late stage of this republic, as much as when the roman senate wanted to exert it's power and recall Cesar to face charges over his multiple crimes, and it is over Donald Trump of all things.

Rusha Caner said: 2) The Democrats have been on a witch hunt since day one, and what they've done is just as bad as Trump's insanity. They were shocked by his victory and felt helpless to do anything because Trump doesn't play by the rules.

How could the Democrats go on a 'witch hunt' when the evidence was as plain as the nose on your face from day 1? No witch hunt was needed...as George W. Bush said immediately after Trump's inaugural speech about Trump, "That's some weird bleep."

The Schiff Committee could have followed the usual procedure and appealed it to the Courts when the President invoked the separation of powers as other presidents have done, Obama among them.

The Committee and its Chairman did not do so...because they knew they would lose.

The possibility that they could lose is far too high a price to pay here.

As I said, if we strip the power to call witnesses in an investigation of the presidents conduct (in a literal impeachment inquiry) we don't have a republic anymore.

The witnesses are already explicitly protected by the constitution in that they don't have to actually testify, just show up.

Soooo, what is your point? Based on these facts, the "problem" cannot be that "Trump and republicans don't see congresses oversight power as legitimate" as you first claimed.

It can be that Trump and the Republicans are not about to assist the House of Representatives to overstep its powers, though. That would be a good thing.

If they lose that court case it is because of exactly that. It will mean that the supreme court (packed by republicans) says that the congressional oversight power of the executive branch is meaningless.

It can be that Trump and the Republicans are not about to assist the House of Representatives to overstep its powers, though.

How could calling witnesses who in fact witnessed the presidents actions in question possibly be an overstep congressional oversight?

Make the case.

How, exactly, is the congress supposed to investigate any presidential action when the president is allowed to simply deny it?

Such a system exempts the president from all laws and oversight, in all cases that his underlings aren't willing to disobey orders.

Such a system is not a republic anymore. It's called a kingdom.

Why is that sad? It's not too late for the GOP to run a candidate and provide primary voters a choice.....I would vote for Kasich.
I'd vote for Kasich as well. I like him for President more than any of the Dems. running and I wouldn't vote for Trump under any circumstances.

The education system. Kids can't find their own state on the map. Many can't compose a coherent paragraph. They are intimidated into going to college even though they will need remedial schooling in order to pass an entry exam.
Why are you blaming the Dems. for that?

One ranking showed the top ten states for a good education have mainly Democratic state governments. Two are Republican states, one is purple, and the rest are Dem. states.
Another ranking was somewhat different states. One Republican, one purple, and eight Democratic.

School administrators and classroom teachers are overwhelmingly liberal. Teaching is delivered to our kids through a liberal, politically correct, filter.

On budgets held by republicans who care less for education, then pushing some creationist and other nonsense rather then real education.

That would violate the separation of church and state.

Society is a reflection of our educational system..."as the twig is bent". Schools bend our kids into all sorts of grotesque shapes. Teachers are surrogate parents, having the kids in their charge for nearly as many hours during the week as parents do, but fail to nurture and protect them. Of course they are victims of their education as well, so it's a vicious cycle.

Any conservative who wants to get into teaching, I'd welcome them as a colleague... any takers?

They were shocked by his victory and felt helpless to do anything because Trump doesn't play by the rules. Therefore, whether the evidence is legitimate or not, history will remember this as a witch hunt and a turning point.
The Democrats had nothing to do with the FBI and CIA and other's investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 election. Nor did the Democrats have anything to do with the Hurricane Crossfire not the Special Council investigation.
The Special Council investigation was started by Rod Rossenstien (a Republican).

Only when the Whistleblower report came to Congress did they start looking into it. They wanted the Justice department to investigate but since William Barr refused, then they had to take up the mantle.
They have been investigating only since September this year.
