We hear a lot about we are justified through or by faith. And we hear we are saved by Grace through faith. But what we don't hear a lot these days is we are Justified by the Blood of Christ and by His Blood we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. (Romans 5:9)

We also don't hear about God's wrath a whole lot either these days.

So was the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ truly propitiation for our sins thus He was a substitute saving us from the wrath of God?

Or is there another way Jesus reconciles us to the Father?

You got it right.

Ro 3:25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—

Ro 5:9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

1Pe 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

In context, justification by faith is not generic faith. It is faith specifically in Jesus and His atoning work. IOW, faith in the blood of Christ to satisfy God's justice for sin. So then, in the context of Paul, justified by faith is the same thing as justified by Christ's blood. He is merely using different words for the same idea (or truth, if you will). So "justified by His blood" is the same idea as "justified by faith in His blood."

I understand it to be both His blood and His death being His total sacrifice for us. The two go together and are synonymous (one in the same).

Just His blood could have been shed, but without His death and resurrection it would have not meant anything.

Romans 8:34

Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God--and He is interceding for us.

God Bless.

"I desire mercy, not sacrifice" - it is the fallen mind that demands "payback" for sin ... as though two wrongs can make a right. "He has shown you, o mortal, what is good; and what does Adonai require of you? .. but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?"

.. so, consider what happened to Adam and Eve, that they lost their knowledge of God's nature, who is love... they had immediately become afraid of their nakedness and stitching up ways to cover up their shamefulness, when in fact God did not come with the wrath that they had expected .. it was their fallen mind that imagined and portrayed God as someone who He is not.

It is that same fallen mind that operates to this day in the sons of disobedience - the same spirit operating in the world, named in Ephesians 2:1-3 "children of wrath" (that is, the ones who rule by wrath rather than mercy - James 2:13). Jesus came and shed blood to prove that God is love, and that God would rather we give Him an opportunity to show mercy for repentance than judgement for obstinence.

Through His perfectly shed blood, therefore we are invited to trust in God's love, to turn and be healed (John 3:19-21). Then, as a result of knowing that God is pleased with our present contrition (Psalms 51:17), we are no longer of fear but born again, of love (1 John 4:18, 1 John 4:7-8). We are not as Adam and Eve were, covering our nakedness, but rather we have become again as a little child, who knows no shame - circumcised in the heart, so the world is free to see who we are in the full.

This produces grace and the restoration of the fullness of the spirit of life, through being released from the mind of anxiety, fear and discontentment coming on account of sin (Romans 6:23).

In the proper way, yes. It is actually a bi-lateral substitution by way of ransom (1 Corinthians 6:20, 1 Corinthians 12:27), in order to secure perpetual Messianic rule until the end (Hebrews 7:23-25).

So, He offered up His life to the hand of sinners, in order to do His work by way of proxy through us - and likewise we conduct our life in service to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19, Matthew 7:21).

...we are Justified by the Blood of Christ and by His Blood we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. (Romans 5:9)...

Important question is, what does the blood mean. There are three options:

1. The actual physical blood of the body on Jesus.
2. The wine that was offered on last supper.
Then he took a loaf of bread, gave thanks, broke it in pieces, and handed it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Keep on doing this in memory of me.” He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, poured out for you.
Luke 22:19-20
3. The spirit that is transmitted through the words of Jesus.
It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
John 6:63

I think it is the words that give life. But what say you?

Frankly that is not clear.

It is true in Him there is ransom. However, what you wrote does not link the clear statement by Paul where he says:
Romans 5:
9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. (NASB)

Which addresses his statement in Romans 1:

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, (NASB)

Therefore, there is more than Ransom happening here. Paul ties the Blood of Christ to Justification satisfying the wrath of God.

Yes, it's important to understand how the wrath of God manifests upon those who are unbelieving, in the way that causes them to rise up as Cain upon Abel and the Sanhedrin upon Stephen :crosseo:.

I have written this article to help with that. Let me know how that fits you.

A lot of solid theology on that page. Can you point to me where you speak of the Atonement?

It seems you are promoting a two tiered system of justification. Either by faith in Christ, or by His death alone. Is that correct?

The Bible is very clear about being saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8.)

Before we consider Rom 5:9 (justified by His blood), we need to consider some earlier verses in Romans, for accurate context.

Romans 3-
24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

These 3 verses clearly state that salvation/justification is by faith in Christ's sacrificial death.

Rom 5:1 - Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, wehave peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Here is another verse that clearly states that justification (salvation) is through faith, the same as Eph 2:8 - we are saved by grace through faith.

Now let's look at v.9 - Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

Given 3:24-26 and 5:1, it should be clear that it is FAITH in His blood (death on the cross) that justifies. So it's NOT His death that justifies, but faith in His death.

What did Paul note of "first importance"?
1 Cor 15:3 - For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

Then, he concludes in v.11 - Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

Keep in mind that IF justifiation is based on His death, then everyone will be justified, which is universalism. And the Bible is very clear that Christ died for everyone. 2 Cor 5:14,15, 19, 1 Tim 2:4,6 and 1 John 2:2.

We also don't hear about God's wrath a whole lot either these days.
True, and quite sad. Believers who are disobedient and unfaithful to the Lord will experience His painful discipline, per Heb 12:5-11.

So was the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ truly propitiation for our sins thus He was a substitute saving us from the wrath of God?
1 John 2:2 says yes, His death is truly propitiation for our sins, and not only for ours, but for the sins of the whole world.

However, His dying for mankind doesn't save mankind from God's wrath. Salvation is on the basis of faith in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ on the cross (His blood) on our behalf. From this faith, Jesus gives the free gift of eternal life to whoever believes in Him (John 5:24, 6:47, 1 John 5:11, 13, and John 10:28).

Or is there another way Jesus reconciles us to the Father?
Nope. No other way.

Two tiered no. You lay out the relevant verses of saved by Grace through faith. My OP focuses on the Atonement which is the efficacy for the free gift. I’m am challenging post modern bloodless salvation through Christ.

We should take note that the Day of Atonement in the Jewish system was vital. There were many sacrifices, none so significant or all inclusive. When Jesus died, just before actually, the veil was torn, God was in that Holy of Holies, atonement was made and God left that Temple. That blood sprinkled on the mercy seat was no small thing, for it to be done once and for all was the zenith of redemptive history. It's obscure, but not indiscernible in New Testament theology. Christ is not only our faithful High Priest, but the very sacrifice of the New Testament. That single point of doctrine is the key to understanding the link between the Old Testament and New Testament concept of atonement. It literally means 'at one moment', that was the cross and the new temple is the church.

Isaiah 53:11 (Jewish Orthodox Bible):
He [Hashem] shall see of the travail of his [Moshiach’s] nefesh, and shall be satisfied; by knowledge of him [Moshiach] shall Tzadik Avdi ["My Righteous Servant," Moshiach, Zecharyah 3:8, Yirmeyah 23:5; Zecharyah 6:11-12, Ezra 3:8 Yehoshua, Yeshua shmo] justify many (Romans 5:1); for he [Moshiach] shall bear their avon (iniquities).

"by knowledge of him", that is, by faith in Him He shall justify many. It is a faith or confident appropriation of the knowledge of the sinless (righteous) Servant's life of perfect obedience and atoning death which grants the sinner a righteous standing in the court of Heaven. Without Jesus' perfect obedience and atoning death, there would be no basis for justification. Without knowledge of that basis, there is no application of that justification.

God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Yes, He was the ultimate sacrifice. We have been justified through his blood. Romans 5:9
