well i dont know how well this will go over
Here, but i dont really care...i lost a nights
Sleep over this. Recently our church
Was a host to one of their meeting, and
I personally provided much of the
Refreshments. I wanted to see what
They were about.....
I found out.
Within half of an hour of going...right
Square in the church.,..he said the church
Will have to no longer be united...
I just about threw him out of the building
But i controled myself.
I later heard another person say that where
He was at he could start another church
Tomarrow.
If these people are so unhappy....leave...
Im sorry, but im from a rural area...a single
Pastor has to cover several churchs....they
Can not do all that is needed due to
Time and cost....
It seems that those yelling are from the
Big churchs.
The churchs BIGGEST problem is not
The gays...but the lack if clergy, and
No new members, and current member
Are older...nobody will serve...nobody
Will help, and fewer people all the time.
In order for a preacher to make grand
Rounds, is well over 90 miles.
The lack of activity and fewer people
Is also not unique to rural tho.

Get back to basics....i i was told these
People do not hate....but one of
Their papers did no include gay as
"Worthy".

I will do everything in my power to
Never invite them back to the
Church.....

Sorry....but i i work hard to keep
Things going, dont need a stranger
Waltz in and tear us apart.

I personally don't have much respect for the organization due to their use of underhanded and bully-methods to get what they want, and they would rather see the entire UMC destroyed than not get their demands met completely. They won't be getting any invitations from me, and not because of anything having to do with homosexuality.

I am also not a fan of the WCA and it’s desire to burn down the UMC to get what they want. As you have said, LGBTQ+ people aren’t the problem.

I was gung-ho WCA for a while, but the more I looked at the shenanigans going on, I just couldn't go there. The OP hit the nail on the head; it's largely the big churches that are making all the noise. I live in the next town over from a megachurch pastored by one of the WCA board members, and the doubletalk that comes out of the pastor in regard to the WCA's actions is a bit scary. He talks a good game in terms of "we need an amicable divorce", etc. but having gone through this as a Southern Baptist in the 80s I fear there will be nothing nice or amicable about it.

Well.....i attended my "other" church
Service today....talking about the book
Of john.....how we are children of god,
And how we "grow up"....so, i should have
Said in my first post.....rather than be
Unhappy...and citing why.....i should
Have prayed for them, saying, forgive
Them father, for they dont understand
What they are doing.

I feel very sorry for the UMC I really do. They're very good at talking about change but no one wants to see it happen. At this point I think a split will be a good thing

I agree. But I'm not so sure it's going to happen. If the US agreed 100% on an approach, it could happen. But they won't. And it looks like Africans won't support a split.

Thank God my "Free Methodist" church has none of these problems. I think a lot of churches don't have these problems. Christianity is not dying but perhaps certain currents within Christianity are.

Don't blame the WCA alone.

They are only the latest iteration of a current that has been dedicated to tearing apart the mainline churches for the past (at least) 70 years. The Institute on Religion and Democracy was their ecumenical 1980s forebear, but their ancestry goes back to the John Birch Society and to early paranoiacs opposed to the foundation of the World Council of Churches (based on a flawed understanding of the Book of Revelation).

I just read that a meeting of Central Conference delegates approves the idea of a separate US region. I'm fairly surprised. That seems like the best solution. The WCA churches would presumably withdraw from that once it's formed, but they've already indicated they're fine with leaving the existing organization in the hands of moderates and liberals.

And two years on, the megachurch pastor in question not only left the WCA, but the UMC in general. His church is in the process of disaffiliation, with the main presenting issue actually being the episcopal polity of any conservative successor denomination that would dictate who the pastor's successor would be. The church wants to be able to decide for themselves who will replace the lead pastor when he retires.
