No. It was a bunch if foolish people that held up the inevitable for half a day. But it was not a insurrection or revolution and democracy was not in danger of anything. It was terrible and never should have happened, they are criminals and rioters, but the government and democracy was not in danger of being overthrown or stopped.

No. It was a trap that everyone involved fell for.

But if they had succeeded in their effort to stop the certification of the election by preventing the Congress from carrying out their Constitutional duty (or possibly committing murder) then the government and democracy would have been in grave in danger of being overthrown or stopped.

The authorities/police stood aside, so the outcome was mainly their doing. The great majority of the people present were ushered into the building by the guards and were simply acting like tourists. No Congressperson was injured, and the business of the body was barely interrupted at all and the election results were certified within hours.

I remember a time when people marched against the war in Viet Nam, and held " sit in's" on campuses in California.
Dire things were predicted, then too .
    But nothing happened.
And I remember reading about The Boston Tea Party.
The point is, every so often rights get trampled upon, and as a result, people revolt, because this IS a Democracy.
I would worry more if they rolled over and accepted it.

In reality that was never really going to happen, the mere idea that it was going to or could have is preposterous. It was a small number of fools that took advantage of a situation that we are still piecing together as to how it got to where it did.

It would have been detained within a few more hours if it ever made it longer than it did. They could have delayed it further, or committed murder, but without any sort of institutional (and military) backing it was never going to amount to more than a very localized riot, and not really even that disruptive of a riot as far as those go.

A couple of fools in horned helmets don't take over countries with a standing military and functioning government.

    But it wasn't.
God is still in charge here.
He allows protests to happen all over the World, because it is the World.
The good news is He will fix all of this in the New World that will be created, and in the New Heaven that will also be created.
So there is a fix for all of this, it's coming soon, and all the problems that now exist WILL be solved equitably.
    Can I get an AMEN?

The trouble is it did happen. We saw it withour own eyes on television.

Your second paragraph is just supposition. The ex-President made no effort to stop the violent insurrection, and the attackers did commit murder as well as destroying property and urinating and defecating in the Capitol.

It wasn't "a couple of fools in horned helmets"; it was a very large crowd armed with various weapons such as flagpoles and bear spray to attack the Capitol, the members of Congress and their staffs, and the police.

One case of many: Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the right-wing group the Oath Keepers, was arrested by the FBI on Thursday in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. He is facing a seditious conspiracy indictment along with 10 others.

Your saying that "it was never going to amount to more than a very localized riot, and not really even that disruptive of a riot as far as those go" is sheer speculation. It was one of the worst attacks on our government and Democracy in our entire history.

One of the Trump fans had zip ties such as are used to apprehend and immobilize criminals. They beat up cops and broke down the door. One officer was doused with pepper spray, went back to his place and died. If the police had not taken members of Congress to a secure location, more damage might have occurred. Some rioters were shouting, “Hang Pence.” They had erected a gallows in an attempt to, “Stop the Steal.” Senator Lindsey Graham advised the police to use their guns in defense of the Capitol Bldg.

Yes... I am sure the Russians were involved. Putin was sighted at a nearby Hardees plotting with Trump and the guy with the buffalo horns on his head. When the window got broken, they tore off their shirts, jumped on their horses, and road off into the sunset. I am sure CNN reported on this. We need congressional hearings.

Not funny! Is there something that you find humorous about the violence of January 6 and its aftermath?

They should have burned a pizza store. Then it would have been reported as a mostly peaceful protest.

Yes... after 2 years of blm and antifa riots, this is an immense joke. This is absolutely nothing. Nobody was in any real danger. Nobody was attacked. Trump told them to be peaceful and eventually told them to just go home.
Insurrection??? Right up there with the Russia hoax. I have been watching protests for 67 years. This was nothing. Much to do about nothing.

If you're trying to make the attack on the Capitol January 6 into a joke, it's not funny!!!
