Walmart says it's testing higher wages for new hourly positions at 500 of its U.S. stores as part of an overall strategy to better empower its staff.

The nation's largest private employer, which operates roughly 4,700 namesake stores in the U.S., says it will be raising the starting hourly wages to $12 from $11 for these new roles.

Now that Walmart has made billions for its owners they can begin paying their workers a living wage with benefits.

In the States, $12.00 an hour is a living wage only if you live in the dumpster behind the Wal-Mart.

Not exactly a test. Walmart is headquartered in Illinois.

Currently, the minimum wage in Illinois is $8.25 per hour. Under the new legislation, the minimum wage will increase to $9.25 by January 1, 2020 and to $10 on July 1, 2020. The minimum wage will then increase by $1 per hour each January 1 until it reaches $15 per hour in 2025. - Feb 21, 2019

Walmart is headquartered in Arkansas, but that’s sort of irrelevant since the minimum wage at a given store is determined by the state in which the store exists, not where the hq is located.

Either way, the money here is much less significant than the potential for empowering employees in their jobs. At this point, most WM employees are treated like mindless robots with no autonomy and silly quotas imposed by incompetent managers. Treating them like intelligent adults will make more of a difference than that extra dollar.
