Read about it here.

Wal-Mart's recall comes after a lawsuit over the bibs by the Center for Environmental Health, based in Oakland, Calif. Alexa Engelman, a researcher there, said the centre became aware of the bibs in September. Engelman said a report by an independent laboratory test contracted by the centre showed the bibs contained 16 times the amount of lead allowed in paint.

:o:eek: Does anyone else think it's a supremely bad idea to be using lead to make baby bibs?

Well, they get most of their stuff from China, because it is so much cheaper, a land (like many) where such laws do not exist or are not enforced that would protect against such things.
Ever since NAFTA was signed, much of our own production moved south to Mexico, and global 'free' trade makes stuff like this not only possible, but likely, too.

I hear you. Don't even get me started on the end result of NAFTA.:doh:The area I'm from in the States has been devastated by it (lots of manufacturing factories have gone south).

And you would think they would test and analyse everything that we import.... well oops missed that one ...

Such a concept would not be economically viable.

Yeah. Just go look at the Port of Oakland, or any other of our ports to get a sense of the scale of the 'testing' that would have to be done. Not possible.
A little protectionism would result in short term price hikes, but long term wealth for avg citizens, as production and jobs in our country grow. A $5 Rubbermaid dish drainer made in the USA would be more expensive than the $4 one from China, but all 5 bucks would be staying in the US (if we shut down globalization, corporate personhood and money funneling onto the Cayman Islands) and funding local jobs.

But then, we can't win in establishing the Kingdom of God on this earth. That's up to the Lord. (Just have to keep the long term perspective)
