The House select committee investigating the US Capitol insurrection long ago dropped the notion of being a narrowly focused quest for the facts as members use their probe to try to defend democracy in its intensifying struggle with Donald Trump.

The panel returns to the public eye Thursday after its late-summer break with a televised hearing that sources tell CNN will serve as a pre-midterms warning that the ex-President is a clear and present danger to free elections.

But are the American people listening? And do the committee’s efforts to undermine Trump’s cadre of election denier candidates in 2022 and vow to ensure he never again tastes presidential power have any chance of success?

It seems as though CNN is finally figuring out that people have way more important things to worry about than Jan 6th.

If you read the article, it is clear that the purpose of the hearings were to influence the midterm elections in favor of Democrats. It was never about "uncovering the truth." That is the only explanation as to why they are so frustrated that polls show people more concerned about inflation and the economy.

Obviously CNN was mocking the American voters because the issue isn't just about fast food. It is about the cost of food in general. Since Democrats took power, people have been struggling to afford the most basic necessities. Have you been to the grocery store lately? I mean, really?

If our democracy does turn autocratic or authoritarian, it will be due to this apathy from voters. Then they will truly have something to whine about. They will finally understand voter suppression is real. If one believes Trump's actions before and during the insurrection are fine, one doesn't respect our constitution or democracy in the first place. He planned to lie to us about his election loss before the election occurred.

Our democratic republic is fine. We simply need to replace the self-serving bad actors infesting our government rather than rewarding their nefarious behavior with reelection. Voters have dropped the ball regarding their responsibility in voting.

If this country becomes an autocracy, it will be a result of stoking enough fear in the masses that they willingly give power to whomever claims will save them from disaster.

The Trump tax cut for the rich helped drive this inflation up, yet folks seem to forget consequences carry on from the Trump debacle. The misguided already gave Trump power to "save them from disaster". And now that disaster is exacerbated.

Maybe try electing respectable people to represent you. People willing to actually work for our needs and not just fundraise and tweet. Hold them accountable at the ballot box. That is the only time they listen to you!
