I guess folks ought to register then.

Believe it or not - in some places, yes. Here in Baltimore, there's such a problem with folks riding unregistered dirt bikes and ATV's around town that they decreed that any dirt bike has to be registered, even if it's just sitting in your driveway.

    Yes, you most certainly do.

I have also noted where several cities and sheriffs have said they refuse to comply with this.

Do you seriously think that people who commit mass shootings would follow the law? Very few mass shootings would be stopped and that is not how most gun deaths happen anyway.

That's the point--the government did know who they were and what kind of guns they owned.

If it is sitting in the yard there is no requirement to register, even if there was how would that be enforced.

Are you familiar with the term "prefatory clause?" Heller v. DC ruling?

The operative part of the 2nd amendment is "The right of the people"

    We are the people:

    Amendment II. BEARING ARMS

    DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA v. HELLER

We, ALL PEOPLE, have an inalienable right to bear arms, because we have the right of self-defense, which is self-evident.

Registration turns an inalienable right into a "privilege." There's a subreddit for /r/AsAGunOwner narratives.

That proves that you can kill people with other things and as I have already stated very few people a year are killed in honest to goodness unprovoked mass shootings.

It would make it much harder for them--and for criminals as well--to get guns.
Too bad about the suicides, but at least they are volunteering to be shot. It's those who are not volunteering for it who concern me. And why are you primarily concerned with mass shootings? I think criminals with guns are a bigger problem.

    How?

Lets address why people want to kill themselves. The tool they choose to do the deed is rather irrelevant.

Very few people are killed in unprovoked mass shootings that means that the main thing they are trying to stop kills very few people.

Do you believe that there are certain folks out there that shouldn't have firearms?

You're just wrong. This sort of law may not exist in many places, but it does exist in some places. You can read the law for yourself:

    https://www.baltimorepolice.org/sit...e19PoliceOrdinances-Subtitile40-DirtBikes.pdf

Cop drives by. Cop sees a dirt bike parked in plain view without registration and without being immobilized. Cop writes ticket.

No, it doesn't. It just puts fences around some of the ways in which you can exercise those rights. Free speech is still a right even though I have to get a permit to stage a rally.
