CE PRESIDENT PENCE TO CHRISTIANS IN IRAQ: “HELP IS ON THE WAY”

I recently had the incredible privilege of introducing Noeh, a 13-year-old Christian boy from the Nineveh Plain in Iraq, to Vice President Pence.
Standing in the West Wing of the White House, Noeh handed the Vice President a small gift of his own marbles that he had found in the remains of his bedroom after ISIS poured oil on his home and set it on fire.

Vice President Pence took the marbles in his hand, stared down at them silently and solemnly for a moment, and thanked Noeh for this special gift. The room was silent and some of the delegation from Iraq shed tears as the Vice President told Noeh that “help is on the way.”
Noeh and his family, like thousands of other Christian families, are in the process of returning to their newly liberated villages along the Nineveh Plain.
This new year, these courageous Christians, who still speak Aramaic, the language of Christ, are returning to homes that have been utterly destroyed, starting their lives anew after fleeing ISIS.
And, as Vice President Pence tweeted about his meeting with Noeh later that afternoon, “help is on the way.”
We’re seeing incredibly encouraging signs as the US government works toward helping persecuted Christians in these vulnerable areas, and Open Doors is continuing to advocate for this funding to help those who need it the most.
But right now, at this very moment, help is needed and help is on the way – through your generous gift.
You can help families just like Noeh’s family today as they rebuild their lives.
This Christmas, Noeh and his family celebrated their first Christmas back in their hometown of Karamles on the Nineveh Plain. This coming new year of 2018 will be their first full year back at home.
Please be in prayer for them as they encounter the challenges of returning home. Please pray for our leaders, and thank God for the special opportunity of a young Christian boy from the Nineveh Plain sharing his powerful story – and a precious gift from the shattered remains of his burned home – with the Vice President of the United States.
We are so grateful for your support as we look toward 2018, and I know Noeh is truly grateful as well.
During his visit to Washington DC, Noeh said that “a thousand days in Karamles is worth one day in the US.” That’s how desperately this boy loves his Christian town on the Nineveh Plain. While some Iraqi Christians are leaving, many deeply desire to stay, and Open Doors is at work helping families like his to finally return home.
Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ, as help is on the way for our brothers and sisters throughout the Middle East and around the world.
