Then apparently, the Catholics don't understand it well either.

That's true. However, the concept of saints says nothing about praying to them in the belief that they can grant the requests of the petitioner. The concept of saints is Biblical.
If you pray to a saint, you are praying to a created being.Nobody in all of Christendom prays to the creation.
I know Catholics are Christians.
If you want to pray the rosary in the manner prescribed for Catholics, then I don't think you can make that kind of substitution. It would not be the rosary that Catholics believe can grant special spiritual favors. But if you want to use the item to pray a series of prayers, as Anglicans and Lutherans sometimes do, using it as a counting device, then "yes."Ok so can I maybe replace with the Lords Prayer?
Catholic websites say you don’t need to be a catholic to use rosary.
Actually, whether the CofE does or not probably depends on the particular parish. In the USA, most do not, but some do, and others do but only on rare occasions. If there is an Anglo-Catholic kind of parish nearby, it probably does use incense. I expect that it can be bought by mail.Another thing I want to buy some insence. Although my understanding is the CofE hasn’t used it for years. Most interesting replies.
Just a cautionary comment. Be careful with incense, both it's source and use or intent if you will. You don't want to invite some pagan ritualistic demon into your presence. I assume not anyway. IE you should know what you're doing with it in a Christian way if there even is such a thing. For instance, pagans or white witches would clear their house with sage smoke ( incense), speaking spirits away. That sounds innocent, except the house is now stripped of even protection from our side of the fence. You would do far better to speak the name of Jesus all through your house instead in that case and forget the smoke show. Just an example of what not to do with incense.Ok so can I maybe replace with the Lords Prayer? Catholic websites say you don’t need to be a catholic to use rosary. The use of incense is a "throw over" from Judaism, not paganism.Just a cautionary comment. Be careful with incense, both it's source and use or intent if you will. You may not realize it but some of these old traditions in churches are throw overs that came right out of paganism.
So carry on, I'm done.
My point was to consider the source of the incense and "some" use was a throw over from paganism. IE use it wisely, purchase it wisely. It's been widely used in many religions. I'll let you look it up yourself. The use of incense is a "throw over" from Judaism, not paganism.
IMO, our prayers to God or Christ or the Holy Spirit,, should be like talking to a friend... Why would you want to say the same thing over and over to a friend.Hi all
I am C of E and would love to pray using the rosary. Is there any Christians out there that use the rosary? I know Catholics are Christians.
Thanks
This verse comes to mind, not that it's a perfect fit but it comes to mind: Matthew 6:7 - But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.IMO, our prayers to God or Christ or the Holy Spirit,, should be like talking to a friend... Why would you want to say the same thing over and over to a friend.
Christ told us that He knows our prayers before we say them.... He just wants us to say them. He wants a personal relationship.. He doesn't want a book, written by someone else, read to Him every time you pray....
Prayer is personal. Prayer is different every time.. Prayer is a relationship. Not a list of wants, needs and sorry's and thanks over and over again.
I will say, however, praying the rosery would be better than not praying at all.
True, though the second part is quite Biblical:Only the first part or half of what is customarily called the Hail Mary prayer.
Perhaps you never noticed this before.
Good point !! Thanks, I get messed up switching forums from debate to non debate without looking but especially when the header for the site says for discussion and debate..Again: this thread isn't for debate on the rosary. It's a question about who prays it.
That's not the part that is in question.True, though the second part is quite Biblical:
Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos
Mary full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, for you gave birth to the Savior of our souls.
The bolded parts certainly have scriptural backing, albeit not word for word.
