What I see in some of these cases is a mix of incompetence in selection, training or fundamental character that leads to the use of a gun as the solution to a problem when other options are available.

There is no question, that a percentage of police shootings (killings), display bad judgment and improper use of deadly force. There is also no question, the vast majority of police killings, indicate that police acted properly in using deadly force.

So to me, just listing the total amount of police killings is quite meaningless and is only done to support a certain ideology by lumping all those who were killed together. With 320 million people, the amount of people with guns and the number of violent criminals in the US, I think most reasonable people would conclude, police are going to be put in a position to use deadly force, to either protect themselves or the general public.

It is not a current event but 100 years ago come tomorrow Canada lost 3,600 dead and another 8,000 wounded. They won the first major Allied victory in WW1.

Thanks for that heads up. I had only been peripherally aware of that battle. In the end the cavalrymen mostly fought as light infantry which is my heritage. I am in the process of preparing a major newspaper article for the fall of 1918 detailing the "last hundred days" of WW1. The Canadian Corps, ably assisted by the Australian Corps and the 51st Highland Division took on half the German Army and defeated them soundly. The British, French, Belgians and, oh yeah the Americans, managed to handle the rest. In WW2 my unit was the Regina Rifle Regiment --- landed at D-day, made the deepest penetration of any Allied force and then two days later broke the back of the counter attack by the 12th SS Panzer Division.
