Did you actually read these articles?

Other than the wife killed by her deputy sheriff husband and the two officers on administrative leave pending an investigation, each story has violence against police officers in the line of duty or an armed suspect.

When a police officer is run over twice by a car and his partner shoots I think they had a reasonable escalation of force.

it's information, and people should know how many people are killed each year by the police.
tulc(isn't here to defend or attack just to provide information)

Understand tulc. Your title says "police killed."

Although "kill" is technically correct Biblically, stating such to an open audience connotes wrong doing.

Roughly 90% of what you posted was a day in the life of a cop who chases people breaking the law.

One was a domestic situation, one was nebulous on suspended officers pending an investigation, one the cop resigned because he lost control of his car killing a pedestrian bystander. He was so remorseful for accidentally killing someone he resigned.

Perhaps... but if in the end 100 people are shot by cops and 99 involved incidents where the cop's life was in danger (or the lives of others were in danger) then to post about the cops killing people makes the cops look bad and creates a bias against them. Instead, post about the 1 that was questionable.

Not to pick or derail the thread, but when the commandment says not to kill, the idea is murder not killing in general. The Torah (law) actually allows for the killing of others in self defense. If a cop shot for the sake of shooting... that would fall into the murder category. But shooting because he felt his life threatened (or that another's life was threatened) then even biblically he is justified.

You might also ask why (if this is so common) it's such a big a problem in this country and not in other first world countries? Why does this country have (on average sometimes more, sometimes less) 3 people a day killed by its police?

It's not very useful information outside of any context though. It's a bit like saying 30,000 people died from gunfire last year...

Some of those are suicides. Some are murders. Some are self-defense. Some are accidental.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you're providing this information? Is there some discussion you'd like it to lead to? Or do you think it's important for some reason?

Sorry, I didn't see this before I wrote my last post....

It's a combination of things. We live in a nation with a huge disparity between rich and poor. We have relatively loose gun laws that make firearms easily accessible. We have a culture that encourages individuality over community. We have drug problems, education problems, employment problems, and let's not forget the violent crime problems.

I think when you mix all that together...yeah...police are going to end up in a lot of situations where they need to shoot someone (or at the very least believe they do).

Those are context. Context is bad! It doesn't result in riots, and burning places like Ferguson up. It doesn't result in nutjobs killing five cops in Dallas as revenge. How are we ever going to get that race war BLM seems to want if we keep having context to these events?

Can you name any other government organizations that kills as many other Americans as this one? The US police killed 1153 people in 2016. 1209 in 2015 and 1111 in 2014, can you tell me that if any other government group was paid and supplied with tax dollars had killed that many other Americans, people wouldn't be asking some serious questions about them? I think it's worth at least having the facts about what's happening.

Dismissing isn't refuting.
tulc(is just sayn')

Then perhaps you should ask the question in a manner that isn't leading? Such as: is it right for police to use lethal force? should cops be allowed to carry guns? should there be a police force? Something similar to those.

The problem is: That's one of the questions that I have but when I ask that question instead of seeing it as a legitimate question I'm basically told "There's something wrong with you if you ask that question." Or if I present the raw data about how many people are killed by the police (with a link to the stories about what happened) I'm somehow now "Asking the question wrong.". :sigh:

Then you challenge them to explain why it is wrong to ask that. For my part, I believe that the right to bear arms is central to our constitution, and therefore the police should be equally armed (but not decked out like they're military). Therefore, I support the use of lethal force to protect themselves or other innocents.
