  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a friend who has suffered a lot of pain since a car accident parylized him four yrs. ago.  He now has a degenerative lung disease and doesn't know how long he'll live.  Last summer, he was baptized and placed his faith in Christ, although he still doesn't know a lot about the Bible, etc. . b/c he hasn't attended church except for once.  Now he is facing a lot of doubts and struggles with accepting God for who he is, he doesn't understand why he has to suffer so much.  He has turned to other religions for answers and is quickly losing all faith.  There's hope--he said he wants to believe in God, he just has to "figure some things out".  I ask that you'd pray for his faith to be revived and strengthened, and that he would start seeking God again.  This prayer request is urgent, we don't know when his lungs will fail.  PRAY HARD, I love this guy, and God does too!

Strange! Last summer he accepted Christ and was baptized. Now some 6 months or more later, he still doesn't know much about the Bible, you say, and has attended Church only once.

What if he got married to someone he did not know before, and only went home ONCE in 6 months? How much love would that show for his bride? How much could he expect to know about her?

You say he has turned to other religions and is quickly losing his faith. Well, I guess so. Turning to other religions would certainly cause me to lose my faith too.

You say he "wants to believe in God, he just has to figure some things out".
HUH? Do you see what you have written???

Either he has accepted Christ as his personal Saviour or he hasn't. If he doesn't even believe in God, it seems obvious he hasn't. The reason he doesn't know anything about the Bible may be because he does not spend any time reading it. And how much time does he spend talking to Jesus, and more important how much time does he spend listening to him?

Every Christian in the world can pray for him, but God still will not force Himself on anyone.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

That clearly tells us how we are saved and WHERE we get the faith. God has already given him the faith to be saved. It is up to your friend to exercise that faith and put it into action.

You need to explain these things to your friend. You need to go over the simple plan of salvation with him and lead him to Jesus. You need to teach him to open his heart and to pray and listen to Jesus. You need to see that he spens some time in God's Word, getting to know Jesus. You need to help him FOCUS on Christ and stop wasting precious time seeking answers in other religions and trying to "figure things out".

Once he gives his heart to Jesus, he MUST spend some time in God's Word. THAT is where he will find the answers he seeks. There is a L-O-T written about suffering there. Jesus suffered more than any man ever suffered yet NEVER lost His faith. Paul did a little suffering too, yet only grew stronger in his faith. All the disciples are aquainted with suffering, as are Christians all over the world today. Those who have faith in Jesus will NOT lose it due to suffering.

I will pray for your success in dealing with your friend.

LOrd, please reveal yourself to this suffering man, despite his suffering and through his suffering. It is so hard to have faith in You sometimes. We can't see you directly or hear you directly when you speak. And great pain can drown out your voice altogether. This man stepped toward you last summer, then had a bad accident that left him in so much pain. He wants a relationship with you, he's searching everywhere for you! Please be there for him, show yourself to him, and continue to give him your great love. I left him up to you in his physical and spiritual pain and know that you will hold him in your arms forever. Amen.
