This does not imply sinless perfection.

We may certainly progress to a point where we don't overtly break laws. But "sin" is "missing the mark" ... falling short of Christ Himself. And we all fall short of Christ, all the time.

The "perfect" here has to do with growing up, being mature, in our case being transformed to be like Christ. It doesn't relate to breaking laws.

The question is whether or not you believe apostasy is possible. I know some don't believe that. But the early Church understood that it was (God doesn't usurp our free will once we believe in Him). He will in no wise cast us away - but that doesn't mean we are not free to leave if we turn aside to the world instead, God forbid. If we do, we run a great risk.

No part of the Holy Scriptures are false. Any time our reading seems to suggest they are, we may be sure it is our reading that is in in error, not the Scriptures.

"as your Heavenly Father is perfect."

Sorry friend, I just got back home.
Ok so how do you reach that perfection??? Only through the righteousness that is applied to you through Christ.
No flesh can be perfect. EVER!

The context of Mat 5:48 is forgiveness. We should forgive not just our friends but our enemies, as God does. Be perfect as God is, is the conclusion of that teaching. Therefore it seems to be talking about being perfect in our forgiveness. To suggest that we have to be morally perfect would contradict the point is being made.

Here's what the Logos commentary says:

"This verse confirms the argument of v 45 and properly forms the conclusion of the pericope. The disciples (ὑμεῖς, “you,” is emphatic) are to be “perfect” (τέλειος)—that is, they are to be like their Father in loving their enemies. This view is supported by the context as well as by the Lukan parallel (Luke 6:36), which employs the word οἰκτίρμων, “merciful” or “compassionate,” in place of Matthew’s τέλειος. There is a sense, however, in which this verse also serves as the logical conclusion to all the preceding antitheses. The righteousness of the kingdom, which altogether exceeds that of the Pharisees, involves a call to be like the Father."

First he says that backsliding means you wont be forgiven which contradicts scripture then I figured it out, these people are basically atheist

I don't know how you reached the conclusion that those people are atheists.

The new testament is filled with warnings to Christians -real Christians, not any other type- against both committing sin and apostacizing from the faith. In the early church there were certain sins the church did not claim the authority to forgive. 1 John 5:16 forbade the church to even pray for someone who had committed mortal sin. That person would be declared "anathema maranatha", that is, "accursed until the return of the Lord".

It was 217 AD when Pope Calixtus claimed for the church the power to forgive adultery, and it almost sent the church into schism. Later, after the last Roman persecution, the church claimed the authority to receive once again those who had lapsed under persecution. Hebrews 6 was effectively set aside by the church.

The answers you are looking for are found in the history of the church.

This thread has just undergone a cleanup. Please help us keep it clean by following the rule stated below:
Challenging Paul's position as an Apostle of Jesus Christ who (although not one of the original twelve) was sent forth by Christ after his conversion [Acts 9:15-16], or arguing against the inclusion of Paul's writings in the New Testament canon, is not allowed in any "Christians Only" forums (including the Controversial Christian Theology forum). You may disagree on the interpretation and application of his writings, but not their place as canon or Paul as an inspired author of Scripture.

Genesis 3
4“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

John 6:44 For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.

John 10:26 But you don't believe me because you are not my sheep.

Ezekiel 33:11 As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, O people of Israel! Why should you die?

This is your salvation, repent or die thats the bible and love God and your neighbor as yourself

John 8:24 That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins."

Matthew 1:21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

Matthew 24:14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.

Thessalonians 2:1-3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

A great falling away from the teaching of this devil
