Orthodoxy is adherence to that which is the genuine or original.
I suppose you could say that--that the word itself most often associated with the Eastern Orthodox churches. But that's also the case with the word "Catholic" and "Reformed" and some others that a denomination or group of denominations has more or less made its own. But of course neither of us have been using it in that sense in this thread, and it's also true that the word is used in another sense. "Orthodox Calvinism" or "Orthodox Anglicanism" are terms that are in common usage among those people, and the word is used by others to refer to the original of whatever the subject is.What I find interesting is that an "Orthodox Christian" is usually one that follows Eastern Orthodox as that name has been synonymous with the EOC for quite some time, yet it has become an umbrella term for the collective of established denominations.
There is a general understanding that the original or authentic version is what is referred to; therefore, it is possible for those who are in step with that orthodoxy and those who are not to agree on what's being identified. But of course, there can be differences of opinion when it comes to specific and precise classifications. Then too, it only matters to those who think there's something special about calling oneself "orthodox."Who gets to define what is and is not "orthodox"?
What kind of papers do you think Jesus hands out? True ordination is only seen by us when a preacher can stand the test of,
Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Since you ask, "what I think" is that every church believes that Christ is the head of the church and that he calls his pastors into service. However, it's humans who do the ordaining. What kind of papers do you think Jesus hands out? True ordination is only seen by us when a preacher can stand the test of
Man cannot ordain, only God can do that, all men can do is recognize if one is from Him and weaves not in error.
Now IF one truly has His Spirit of Truth he does that fairly soon in the discourse of the speaker.
Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into ALL truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Two great promises we can be sure will not fail as it is guaranteed by His Word!
Is it necessary to pretend that you don't know what I'm referring to?Man cannot ordain
Is it necessary to pretend that you don't know what I'm referring to?
When someone is made a cleric/pastor/preacher, it's one or more other humans who lay the hands on him (or whatever) and conduct the ceremonies.
If I speak the truth and am guided by the Spirit...
And you speak the truth and are guided by the Spirit...
Yet we contradict each other...
Which one is false?
The one that does not speak according to the Word of God.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
ALL, does not leave out any!
You danced around my question without answering it.
You got my answer fair and square. The Word is the only infallible guide of God to man with His Spirit in one to guide into the truth of it.
Without His Spirit it is only print on paper but with His Spirit it becomes light and life!
