Hebrews 9:4 -New King James Version (NKJV)
4 which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;
It is no coincidence that there were three items in the ark and there are three persons in the Holy Trinity. I believe that God placed the items in the ark that would represent each person of the Trinity.
The easiest item to connect to the Trinity is the jar of manna. Jesus said that He is the bread which came down from heaven so the jar of manna could definitely represent the Son. The stone tablets represent the law and I think we all know that the Father is lawgiver. That leaves Aaron's rod and the Holy Spirit.
To see how Aaron's rod could represent the Holy Spirit we have to consider what happened when Aaron's rod budded. At that time Aaron was made spiritual leader for Israel. in the church we know that the Holy Spirit appoints our leaders through spiritual gifts.
I know not everyone will agree with this, but I still wanted to share. It amazes me that they were carrying around an ark that contained representations for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and they never had a clue what God was doing.
