President Donald Trump is ordering most of the remaining US forces out of northern Syria, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Sunday.

"We have American forces likely caught between two opposing, advancing armies and it's a very untenable situation. I spoke with the President last night, after discussions with the rest of the national security team, and he directed that we begin a deliberate withdrawal of forces from northern Syria," Esper said on CBS' "Face the Nation." "Which is where most of our forces are."

Donald gave Turkey everything they wanted, and to the surprise of absolutely nobody, they took more.

I sure hope he got something nice out of the deal for his businesses...

Brave Sir Robin ran away
Bravely ran away away
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!

Amatuer hour.

“This is total chaos,” a senior administration official said midday Sunday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity amid reports that other forces, including the Syrian Army, were moving into the region.

Although the senior administration official said that “the Turks gave guarantees to us” that U.S. forces would not be harmed, Syrian militias allied with them “are running up and down roads, ambushing and attacking vehicles.” The militias, known as the Free Syrian Army, “are crazy and not reliable.”

At the same time, the official said, the Islamic State is active in the area, and there are reports that Russian and Syrian forces are moving in as well. “We obviously could not continue,” said the official, who called the situation “a total s***storm.”

But see how the narrative is being constructed. We are hearing "How come you peace-loving Democrats don't want to withdraw our troops from Syria?" as if the only alternatives were to leave troops in Syria indefinitely or remove them in the ignorant, ham-fisted way that Trump has done it.

...and there were only a few dozen Special Forces troops withdrawn from the security zone. It seems Erdogan essentially told Trump to get the troops out or else....and Trump folded.

...Turkish and Syrian army troops may soon mix it up:

On Sunday evening, the Kurdish authorities announced a deal with the Syrian government to allow the Syrian Army back into Kurdish-held areas, with regime troops due to enter the city of Kobani overnight.

“It has been agreed with the Syrian government, which has a duty to protect the country’s borders and preserve Syrian sovereignty, that the Syrian army can enter and deploy along the Syrian-Turkish border to support the S.D.F. to repel this aggression and liberate the areas entered by the Turkish army and its mercenaries,” the Kurdish authorities said in a statement on Sunday night.

Those 50 guys were basically the pin on the grenade that is the whole situation.

Now there's a whole new shooting war between Turkey and Syria. I think that's actually the first real war between nations in the region for years.

I expect the Kurds to turn over ISIS prisoners to Assad's army.
