How can one build trust with God? I have always had a problem trusting others in general? How can I build that with God. It seems like a conondrum because it kinda spells it out in the bible that the more you trust the more you will know him and him you? and you probably won't reap any reward from the Father if you lack any trust? But I cannot build trust/faith out of nothing? So if I never come to know him intimately how can I have that trust? I must trust FIRST? but how can I trust when I have so little faith?

I hate this about myself? Why can't I just fully BELIEVE? then faith and trust would be there automatically but they all seem to go hand in hand and I have these doubts chained to me, I'm imprisoned by them..

I wish I lived back when Jesus was alive and had met him in the flesh because then how could I possibly have any doubt then?

Pray for openness and read the gospels... Start with Luke

His Spirit will respond with the reality you seek.

Then carry on through Acts and Romans.

    Heb 11:6
"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him..."

Read and believe, ask Him to convince you.

Practice with little things and grow your faith and trust that way. Like in the parable of the talents, first the servants are trusted with something small, and then those who were faithful in the small things are given much. So think about some small things that you are 100% confident leaving in God's control without worrying and stressing about and pray to Him about those things. When you see for long enough that leaving these small things to Him has not caused the world to end, that everything is fine in that regard, add other things in full confidence. Drink milk before eating meat, so to say.

Thanks for the reply, and I agree but could you possibly give me an example of a "small" thing I could trust to God, but at the same time not being so small I forget or it does not grow my faith? I know this may differ from person to person but I'm not really sure what to trust him.. I wish I had enough faith and trust that I could trust everything to him and not second guess, but I don't think that is possible right now, if I could hit a light switch and make that so I would right now in an instant.

Does the Lord want you to have faith and trust in Him. Yes, of course.

Pray to Him to increase your faith and trust in Him.

    John 14
13And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

    Mark 11:24

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Continue studying His Word .... always ... always.

    God Bless.

Bcs90, welcome! I've only been here a few weeks myself. I have found people here who are good sources of encouragement. I see that some have found you already.

Without knowing what other heart-deep factors play in here, what has worked for me is to recall the BIG things God holds steady on a day-by-day basis. If you were a fly on my wall, you might hear me saying something like, O God, You hold the universe in Your hands, You spoke everything into existence with Your Word of Power. There is nothing too hard for You, because You alone spread out the heavens and established the earth. What is man that You are mindful of Him, but You have given us Jesus and allowed us to come boldly to ask what we need. Your mercies are sure, steadfast, and new every morning, and Your faithfulness is great! You said of Yourself that you delight in lovingkindness, mercy, and justice. There is no one like YOU.

Those aren't my original words. I found them all in the Bible, and you can too. Read what God says about Himself, and read what the people who trusted Him said about Him. Speaking words like that aloud, especially when my heart is burdened with a need, has helped me trust Him tremendously, and I hope it will also help you.

It really would vary from person to person. Maybe for help controlling your temper when some situation comes up. Maybe for your car to not break down. Maybe for finding a new job. Confidence to talk to people. Etc. Just something in your life that you need help with, that you feel confident that God can accomplish!

Faith (and trust) is built upon, and strengthened by, knowledge. Paul the apostle described this dynamic in his letter to young Timothy:

    2 Timothy 1:12
12 ...for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I've committed unto Him until that day.

Know>believe>persuasion (trust)>commit - this is how things worked for Paul and, I believe, for all Christians.

God never calls us to have blind faith in Him.

    Romans 10:17
17 So, then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

It is as you gain a knowledge of God through His divine revelation of Himself in the Bible that God intends your faith in Him should develop.

The apostle John puts it this way:

    1 John 4:16
16 And we have known and believed the love God has for us...

See? For the apostle John, too, belief (faith, trust) was preceded by knowledge.

Well, you can have his Spirit living within you. That seems like a pretty good trade-off to me...

We come to 'know' Him through the new birth.
As new born babes in Christ we grow in Him through His Word, through His indwelling Spirit and through the trials He puts us through...

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
    (Jas 1:2-4)

1 Peter 2:2 (KJV) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
