As a Harry Potter fan, envisioning Trump with a magical wand brings this image to my mind...

And manufacturing jobs are still way below where they were when the recession hit.

Clearly that is because of the 8 years Obama had to Make America Not Great.

Why am I not surprised that the headline doesn't match what the article says?

The headline is from the article.

Sounds like Soviet era propaganda:
GRAIN PRODUCTION UP 400%! IMPERIALIST SABOTAGE MEANS 20% GRAIN RATION REDUCTION

Both periods are considered by most economists to be in the mature stage of the business cycle. In Obama’s case, slow economic growth, especially regarding sluggish manufacturing employment, was considered the “new normal.” The national economy grew by 1.6% in 2016, Obama’s last year.

From October 2014 to December 2016, private sector employment grew by 4.2% as the unemployment rate dipped to 4.7%. In the past 26 months, private employers have grown their payrolls by 4.0% as the job market has tightened considerably, with official unemployment dropping to 3.8%.

For the limited period exampined - 52 months - it's true manufacturing jobs growth has increased at a faster rate under Trump. However, unless our country finds more effective ways to re-train our citizens for the jobs of the future, this short term growth will be temporary. For example, spending our tax money on M1 Abram Tanks -- tanks the military didn't even want - will produce no long term benefit to our country nor our workforce.

I know. That's why I didn't accuse you of being the one who wrote the dishonest headline. But even a cursory reading of the article shows that it doesn't support the headline.

Is there anything in the article that is inaccurate? If not, this is good news for the country.

The headline is baloney.

I can't say for certain that the numbers are inaccurate, but the specific windowing that the author chose (i.e. comparing Trump's first 26 months to Obama's last 26 months) certainly presents a picture that, if not entirely inaccurate, is certainly skewed. There was a lull in manufacturing job growth from late 2015 through 2016, but prior to that (from 2010-2015), the growth rate was respectable - almost as high as it has been during Trump's tenure:
All Employees: Manufacturing

Most of his comments about the effects of policy (e.g. repatriating of money, blaming government intervention for a slow recovery) are ridiculous.

You mean there were 10,000,000 manufacturing jobs in America two years ago and now there's 4,000,000,000?

Is there anything Trump can't do???

A 400% boost from 10 million would be 50 million. 4 billion would be a 30,000% boost.

But no, there aren't 50 million manufacturing jobs.

Harry Potter isn't real.

Neither is the claim of the thread title.

While overall employment numbers are comparable, the difference in manufacturing is profound. In the last 26 months of Obama’s presidency, manufacturing employment grew by 96,000 or 0.8%. In Trump’s first 26 months, manufacturers added 479,000 jobs, or 3.9%, 399% more jobs than Obama’s record.

I laughed at the other comment and rolled my eyes. And I thought of this quote from HP: "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
