As I understand it, although Trump was shot down on his claim of absolute immunity, the case is going back to the lower court and the legal squabbling is likely to continue until well after the election.

It is kind of a mixed decision. The Court ruled Donald Trump (or actually his accountants) cannot refuse to release his financial records to the Manhattan DA. But the DA must still go back to the lower courts to get an order for their release. The ruling essentially shoots down Trump's assertion that a sitting President's immunity from prosecution forbids any discovery, or gathering of evidence. It's almost a certainty that no records will appear before the election. But the ruling is still a loss for him.

The Court also ruled that Congress could obtain a President's financials, but there must be a legitimate legislative purpose. The House can possibly still get these records, but they must convince a lower court that such a purpose exists. This raises the bar for the House. This is sort of a win for Trump.

    Both decisions were 7-2.

Yes. It is currently blocked by congress. We will probably not see those records until after the election. It's interesting that the Trump administrations hopes for a conservative court has been frustrated lately.

It seems like the American public will never tire of the two party horror show. The Supreme Court now serves more as an arbitration group for when the Democrat and Republicans want to stop legislating and stomp their feet on television.

This decision is a conservative one. It would have been a radical move to have ruled any different.

My point is that Trump though his appointments would shield his policies and himself from judgements he considered wrong headed. It's a bit ironic the way recent judgements have landed.

I wonder how the Supreme Court feels like after being "loosened"?

True. But it is the Court’s job to decide if laws, lower court rulings, or governmental actions pass Constitutional muster. We hear a lot of griping about the federal courts exceeding their authority. Legislation by court, I’ve heard it called. But given today’s intense political division, it’s difficult to pass bipartisan legislation. By default, the courts become the lawmakers of last resort. And I think the politicians like it that way. It lets them off the hook from having to make tough legislative decisions. And then they can blame the court system for outcomes their constituents don’t like.

Information leaks from anonymous sources imminent. There is no regard for the laws when it comes to advancing their narrative

Their narrative? I guess you mean democrats? As if Republicans are more honest and honorable. Both parties lie and mislead to drive their own priorities and ideology. Ideology is a poison in politics.

    Good Day,

Not really it has been moved back to the district court, and the decision gave the President types of arguments that could be made on His behalf in the lower court.

Today's White House briefing covered this in detail.

    In Him,

    Bill

It would have been insane if the court ruled the potus essentially immune from prosecution.

But a lot of "conservatives" wanted exactly that. I guess going back to a monarchy is a sort of extreme conservatism.

Then it would be Queen Melania, not Pence, who's "a heartbeat away".

Until they are actually handed over, take this with a grain of salt, but Deutsche Bank has already said they are handing over Trump's taxes as a result of today's ruling.

If you check the President's Twitter account, it is obvious that he is displeased with the courts ruling today.

Poor President Trump. SCOTUS acting like real judges. Checks and balances. Reign in the Executive Branch. A blow to Imperial Presidency.
