Trump won't condemn self-proclaimed white nationalist Christopher Hasson because "those are his people," ex-RNC chair says
The former head of the Republican National Committee blasted President Donald Trump on Friday, speculating in a cable news appearance that Trump may have tempered his remarks about a self-identified white nationalist and domestic terrorist because "those are his people."

"Why are we acting like this is a space that Donald Trump is going to go in and behave of the American ideal?," said Michael Steele, who is also a former lieutenant governor of Maryland, in an appearance on MSNBC. "No, he is not. These are his people. And he's not going to thank law enforcement because he's probably not happy about what law enforcement did."

The president certainly has a problem condemning white supremacy whenever it rears its ugly head, yet he is quick to spread lies about other groups if they are in the news. It really is hard for him to condemn terrorism.

Steele was booted from his Republican position years ago and has been of any significance ever since only because he faithfully voices the Democratic Party line on everything. This makes him an important guest commentator on MSNBC whenever it wants to pretend to have a discussion involving representatives from both parties.

I remember Trump was first like "Who's David Duke? Never heard of him!" and then he was like "Oh David Duke! Yeah, I denounce him, okay?" It took him awhile to denounce the former KKK leader.

I also remember what he said about the white nationalists in Charlottesville too.

How strange. It's almost as if you think Michael Steele is the topic of this thread rather than Christopher Hassan and Trump's handling of him.

"He didn't say what we wanted him to say, so these are his people"

Got it.

Who are you quoting?

Yep...that was clear after Charlottesville; equivocating comments for which I'll never forgive Donny.

... including "violent White Supremacists are bad people and should be condemned without prompting."

If that's the Democratic Party line, you've just proven Steele's point for him.

Well, to be fair, the head of the American Conservative Union said he only was selected as GOP Chair because he was a black guy.

Attack the messenger, instead of debating the merits of what he has to say? Can you say "tribalism"?

Seeing as how the "tribe" is defined by its loyalty to Donald, perhaps "cult of personality" is more fitting?

What is wrong with those? Lots of great leaders have cults of personality: Kim, Putin, Mao, Pol Pot, Duterte, Papa and Baby Doc, Tito, Stalin, Hitler, Ho Chi Minh, the “other” Nguyễn family members, Ceaușescu (until he didn’t), de Gaulle, Castro, Che, Obama, and many more.

Well then, let's call it what it is -- and give Donald credit for his work.

Why would you think that a posting of historical facts amounts to either "attacking the messenger" or "tribalism?" Catch phrases aside, the simple truths of this matter may not have been known by every reader, but they are now.

Mark Levin, the TV and radio commentator, gave what is probably the best counter to Steele's poorly-thought out speculation about the president's loyalties:

"He was arrested under the Trump administration you idiot. And now he’ll be prosecuted under the Trump administration."

The administration did not arrest anyone, that's a dumb argument by Levin. The credit goes to law enforcement, Trump is not law enforcement.

What historical facts?

Are they known by you yet?

...And Donald isn't happy about either of those.

While I have no doubt that that’s “the best counter” anybody on the right has come up with, it’s still an absurd argument. Not only is the complaint not about law enforcement agencies, but Trump doesn’t control the FBI. That’s why he complains about it all the time.
