After years of trying to dismantle DACA, Trump says he will create 'a road to citizenship' for recipients

President Trump said Friday that he will be signing an executive order in the next few weeks which will include a “road to citizenship” for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals(DACA) recipients.

“I’m going do a big executive order, I have the power to do it as president and I’m going to make DACA a part of it,” Trump said in an interview with Telemundo anchor Jose Diaz-Balart.

Trump, ... has pledged to end DACA since he was on the campaign trail in 2015 when he called the program an “illegal executive order,”

We have reached the irrational pandering part of the Trump reelection campaign.

Smart move doing it on a Spanish speaking channel so his true followers never see it. That way they don’t get mad and start heckling him as “Amnesty Don.”

Oh, is he finally listening to the American people after 3 years? Stephen Miller won't be happy if Trump actually carries through with this order.
He’s not listening to anyone. He’s just now realizing he needs more than angry white people to win re-election.

Well, he was prevented from dismantling it altogether so - if you can’t beat them, try and win their votes.

Well, I’m an angry white person and I don’t think that is going to help Trump win re-elected at all.

Neither will Steve Bannon and his other nationalist and white supremacist supporters.

But he does have other supporters that won't like it either.

He doesn't need to do an EO. The legislation he agreed on before is already ready to go. All they have to do is bring it to the floor to vote, so he can sign it into law and stop doing temporary half measures.

Trump tells Telemundo anchor he will sign order to provide road to citizenship for 'Dreamers'

The Latino community knows that this President has never intended to do them any favors and that the only reason he's making this offer, 4 1/2 moths before the 2020 Election, is that the Supreme Court has recently ruled against him on DACA!

Once re-elected, this President is quite capable of changing his mind and resubmitting his challenge to DACA, adhering to the guidelines that the Supreme Court majority opinion advised him to follow!

Trump probably bought some property from the most drug infested pit on the Mexican side of the border, named it “Citizenship” and is now finding a use for all that never used wall building equipment to build a road there.

Maybe he is trying to make that happen by saying he will use an EO.

EO's are temporary fix. Obama only used them because he wasn't able to get a GOP Congress to legislate. Trump doesn't have that problem. They have an immigration package everyone, including himself, agreed to, before Stephen Miller did a behind the scenes veto. All they have to do is bring it to the floor, vote and pass it.

It's like the boy who cried wolf... how could he have ANY credibility with this issue after years of symbolic racist gestures to a xenophobic base?

I think he's waking up to the fact that almost nobody really likes him now days, his hardcore base has shrunk to 17%, and that's not enough to win an election . So he's desperate.

Obama only used them because he thought he was King Obama and was forcing his liberal agenda against the wishes of the people.

So what does that make Trump then? He passed Obama's first-term total a while back.

It makes Trump a president who is not trying everything possible to lead the nation into socialism.
