Trump Supporters Clean Up West Baltimore And The Liberal Media Are Irritated

On Monday, a group of Trump supporters led by conservative activist Scott Presler went to West Baltimore for a massive clean-up operation following tweets sent by President Donald Trump highlighting the dire conditions in the area.

While the residents were thankful for the overhaul — well over 100 volunteers came together to remove 12 tons of trash, according to Presler — the liberal media were, uh, irritated. The media attacked the activist as an "extremist," questioned his motives, and scolded him for "reinforc[ing] the tired image that the poor people in this city can’t take care of their own neighborhoods."

12 tons of trash is quite a haul. I’m sure the residents were thankful.
"Never do for others what they can do for themselves" -- Saul Alinsky

The proper way for this group to address this situation would have been to approach leaders in the community and organize the residents who lived in this area to clean up the neighborhood themselves. Outsiders coming into a community and doing the work that the people living there are perfectly capable of doing themselves not only sends the wrong message, it also ends up causing more harm than good in many cases.

I can't speak for Baltimore, but when there done they should stop by North Philadelphia, this Democratic strong hold needs more than 12 tons taken away. If you were to take a black & white photo of some areas, and superimpose a photo of a few tanks, and an army truck it would look just like Berlin in 1945...it's that bad.

I was in Mogadishu back in the 90's, it was a nicer looking town, by a long shot.

The leaders in the community failed their own citizens. Do you really think they would have welcomed the help? The Baltimore Sun reaction tells the story.

I was in Philadelphia shortly after that MOVE incident. But only by Franklin field for the Penn relays.

I like this because it's close to something very good.

If both sides of this rancorous contest of political sides would begin to do good acts for the other side, that would begin to change things for the better in a deeper and more meaningful way. Nothing leads like a good example.

What if more and more neighborhoods began helping other neighborhoods just because they are human beings? Soon enough the pettiness would fade, and real neighborly love begin to grow.

A wise man once told me never slap away a helping hand. It seems this community did not and that says a lot.

Cummings should've been there to thank them AND to join in, and the current mayor, Jack Young who is mayor now, because the former mayor was forced to resign in May because of corruption and fraud, should've been there to join in AND thank them.

Baltimore needs prayer. BIG TIME.

God help us.

They seem to collect enough taxes to do pretty much whatever needs to be done for their citizens. So you really have to question what they spend the money on instead of spending it for the important stuff?

A most valid point. And I think that is what Trump was getting at. What are these local leaders doing for the people with their own tax money and the millions the fed.gov gives them.

The message it sends is always going to look "wrong" as long as the MSM is twisting what that message is. When volunteers clean up a city, why can't the message be that people are willing to step in and do what needs to be done when a need is shown to exist, rather than the idea that conservatives are trying to show people that they can't do things for themselves? Their politicians are already telling (and convincing) them of that. That's why things don't get done!

The proper reaction would have been to say "Thank you for helping us" rather than taking a good deed and then politicizing it in order to attack people who support the president.

There was another thread where some made claims Conservatives and Christians were not doing enough to ease the humanitarian crisis at the border. Needless to say I listed all sorts of organizations from Feminists for Life to Samaritan’s Purse (huge operation at the border) and the reason they did not know is because the media ignored it.

With this case the media could not ignore it so they besmirched a good effort.

It's the only way of keeping the narrative going. Never let a good deed by the enemy go to waste; twist it to make it look bad.

The message it sends is always going to look "wrong" as long as the MSM is twisting what that message is.
It doesn't matter how the MSM reports the story, the premise of never do for others what they can do for themselves still applies.

When volunteers clean up a city, why can't the message be that people are willing to step in and do what needs to be done when a need is shown to exist, rather than the idea that conservatives are trying to show people that they can't do things for themselves?
The volunteers should come from within the city, community, or neighborhood; it shouldn't be outsiders doing the work for them.

How long do you think the community that was just cleaned up will stay that way? A couple of weeks? Months?

Since this group cleaned up the neighborhood once already, who's going to clean it up next time?

Since the people living there saw that by doing nothing people from outside their community eventually came and cleaned it up for them, what motivation do they have to clean it up once the trash starts pilling up again? This neighborhood apparently remained in a squalid condition for years and the people living there didn't do anything about it, so why would they now? Especially now that they know there are other people willing to do it for them?

Their politicians are already telling (and convincing) them of that. That's why things don't get done!
Things don't get done because the people living in these communities either aren't willing to do what needs to be done, or they don't have a problem with the current situation. If their politicians are the ones convincing them that they must accept things the way they are, then there needs to be a movement from within that community to replace those politicians. As the saying goes, "only a spider can fix it's own web."

The proper reaction would have been to say "Thank you for helping us"
"Thank you for helping us," or "thank you for doing for us what we should have been doing ourselves?"

The better response as I mentioned in my earlier post would have been to approach leaders in the community and organize the residents who live in this area to clean up the neighborhood themselves. Had the people living in this community done the work themselves, they would have felt a since of pride in their accomplishment and would have the motivation to keep their community clean in the future.

When others do work for people who are fully capable of doing it themselves, it leads to dependency.
