Donald Trump’s senior national security officials said they were speaking for the president when they stood together in the White House Thursday and vowed to combat ongoing Russian cyber meddling.

But Trump himself remained silent.

In an unusual appearance in the White House briefing room, several top security and intelligence chiefs accused Moscow of ongoing influence operations, ranging from social media disinformation campaigns to attempts to hack political targets and infiltrate the country’s electoral infrastructure.

“We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States,” Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats told reporters at the White House. "We're throwing everything at it.”

...and with Trump declaring our press as an "enemy of the people", he's doing his best to support Putin's disinformation campaigns.

The best defense against Russian propaganda is to be a careful consumer of information. To date, large portions of the American public have demonstrated they will believe what they want to believe -- which makes them easy targets for Russians. Just look at how many people today base their opinions on memes or the latest talking points <insert 24 hour news channel>.

I am glad there are people loyal to the country, and not solely to Trump.

I hope that makes a difference.

The president has specifically directed us to make the matter of the election meddling and securing our election process a top priority,” Coats added.

So the top brass speaks on behalf of the President at a presser??

And the issue is?.....

What does Trump always need to be in the lime light?

And now the pressed is saying is saying that it’s Trump‘s fault that we need need to do it. After we heard the farmer and ministration say it’s much ado about nothing and Trump should stop whining.

The level of hatred and bias towards this president is at a level that if he were to come out with Putin and wedgy him in public and slap him in the face and blame him for every atrocity known on earth the press would say he’s doing it for the cameras

Or they would go back again to calling him a warmonger. They can't make up their mind whether to call him a warmonger or say that he's too soft.

Later that day, Trump called it a hoax :

But sure, blame the press for reporting this. That's obviously the real problem.

That might be what CNN believes, but read the link

During the rally in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Trump did not mention allegations of interference or attacks on the US democratic process.

Just more media bias

Talking about two different points and the ever hating CNN blends the two into one.

And the issue is?.....

"In Helsinki, I had a great meeting with Putin," Trump said. "We discussed everything. ... We got along really well. By the way, that's a good thing, not a bad thing. Now we're being hindered by the Russian hoax -- it's a hoax, OK?"

Trump at a Rally in PA today.

Going to give a half-defense of Trump's inconsistency here.

Looking at Trump's tweets (collection of Russia statements here), to me it looks like when Trump says "Russian hoax", he's referring to the accusation that he colluded with Russia--that's the hoax to him. He doesn't explicitly deny meddling, instead he argues that it was Clinton and the Democrats who worked with or benefited from Russia and that all of this is a conspiracy against him.

He does seem to stray from that message a bit with tweets like this, but his argument appears to be that the meddling wasn't state sponsored. It still leaves open the idea of non-state actors.

Don't take this as a full-throated defense of Trump. He's lying on both counts. The GRU indictments are pretty devastating to both positions, not to mention statements from the intelligent community, Senate Intelligence Committee, and the specific acts that are a matter of public record. Trump's defense is going to be to tear down Mueller, the intelligence agencies, and anybody else who exposes the above lies. It's more important to directly counter those lies instead of trying to paint Trump as inconsistent.

Just for the record, at this point I'm about 90% convinced Trump is complicit, either directly or indirectly, in Russian meddling...
