No way.
Common practice when Obama was president
now they say it isn't
please make up your mind
poor Biden is getting dizzy.

Defer taxes until...oh, after the election. Gottit. Who will meet any extra costs? Not the federal govt. A new scheme that won’t benefit anyone for months, in the unlikely event that it doesn’t collapse altogether under the weight of it’s own half-bakedness. Smacks of gesture politics. Anything in there that will provide some actual benefit over the next year?

We'll have to pay back the payroll taxes after this is said and done.

On this the American people should have been asked. Hopefully, it will get blocked!

Many of the People want some relief
although it will be quickly spent.
Trump’s doing what he can do.
Biden (still) seems to be lost.
Does best when he says and does nothing
comes easy these days.

You seem to just be assuming it's a useful set of measures without really looking at it.

WOW...

He took deliberate and pointed shots at guilty parties....no wonder they are so shrill about hating him. He called them out on their junk. Including Democratic party Governors of various states having poor management skills...

His normal "in your face monkey...." style has been greatly calmed down from his normal.
Have to give him props in that score.

And it definitely appears that he isn't so in love with all the Republican party's actions and desires either... putting a bullseye on himself from both sides. Gotta give him props on that one too.

For all the hate speech and shrill rhetoric he gets he seems to be doing a fairly decent job.
Granted, he is making no friends out of Democrat party leaders or the PRC...but they never liked him to begin with. He's just very up front about all of it.

And since everyone was stalled and nobody wanted to work out a deal from their firmly entrenched positions...he made an executive order.

Can't say as I can fault him for that either... people were getting hurt while the two sides were fighting.

It sounds so bizarre when you have to specify stuff like this.....like it means something for someone who is totally capable of ruining your day if he sees you not applauding.

Trump's recent announcement committed the states to share in the $400 payments without having negotiated their support or their fiscal ability to pay!

Given that the states never budgeted for the Pandemic and have shouldered most of the responsibility for combating COVID-19, many have exhausted their financial resources and are prevented by law from running deficits!

Without federal support, Governors will be forced into the position whereby they will start laying of teachers, hospital staff, first responders, social workers ...... adding to nation's unemployment totals in the middle of a Pandemic!

What a way to run a country!

Well since you obviously have a position that sides with one of the political parties...

The entrenched positions of both sides were not getting anything done while the people suffered. No one was interested in negotiating anything... meanwhile everyone was suffering.
So one man (President) took action. Right, wrong, or indifferent he seen something needed to be done and he did it.

Whine and complain all you want but it's over now. Had your chance and blew it.

There is a document called "The US Constitution" that clear separates the powers given to the President and Congress. Usurping the authority of one over the other is unconstitutional.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday tore into President Donald Trump’s decision to sidestep Congress and take executive action on coronavirus relief, calling the measures “absurdly unconstitutional.”

They had better leave this one alone because, Trump is on the right road. Of course if Trump did it even for the good of the Country some will still complain.
M

Do you even realize what some of those executive orders mean?

I'll continue paying my payroll tax, thank you very much!

Perhaps "Mountainmanbob" should have read the fine print - individual governors have to apply for this $400 federal benefit and commit themselves to contributing $100 weekly!

Given that no state budgeted for a nationwide Pandemic and have had this President shift the responsibility for combating COVID-19 onto their shoulders, Mitch McConnell has stated that he would prefer some states declare bankruptcy rather than provide them with additional funding!

This President is therefore dangling a financial lifeline in front of the American people without prior negotiations and "with strings attached," whereby many states may not be in a financial position to sign on!

When the dust settles, it will be interesting to determine as to how many behind the scenes financial deals this White House has brokered with Republican states allowing them to take advantage of this federal benefit!
