Trump says he may issue executive order over citizenship question on 2020 census
President Donald Trump said Friday he is considering issuing an executive order requiring a citizenship question on the 2020 census, a move contrary to a Supreme Court ruling last week and one certain to bring more legal challenges.

Trump also said he has "four or five options" as his lawyers look to deal with a Supreme Court decision released June 27 that blocked the citizenship question on the census.

"We're looking at a lot of things, including an executive order," Trump said.

Any move Trump makes to re-institute the question will surely be challenged in court by organizations who say the administration is deliberately trying to undercount minorities.
tulc(thought President Trump/conservatives hated executive orders?)

"Overlords"?
Surely you've never thought the governments serve the common people. Even at the inception of the nation it was designed to serve and give power to only landowners.

Hi tulc,

Well, for me, the real issue is the hypocrisy. Donald Trump, the citizen, used to say that President Obama played too much golf and never had time to run the country. President Trump plays more golf than any previous president by a very, very wide margin, however, even if he had time to run the country, he wouldn't likely do a very good job. But still, it's the hypocrisy of telling someone else that they shouldn't be doing what they do and then going out yourself and doing the same thing, even worse.

Then Donald Trump, the citizen, used to tell us that ruling by EO was no way for a president to run the country. Voile', President Trump thinks that's absolutely the best way to run the country. No sitting president has ever issued as many EO's as President Trump.

President Bill Clinton signed off on the most in recent history and he averaged 45/year over his 8 year term. President Trump, only through November of 2017 had already signed 145. That averages out to more than 80/year for the year and nine months that he was in office up to that date.

His policies just repeatedly ring of hypocrisy and, quite frankly, don't seem to have worked particularly well. He has put the whole world in a precarious position over Iran. He has gained absolutely nothing but claims that 'we are talking' in his trade tariff bullying with Europe, China and Mexico. To me, he's just a bull in a china shop and not a particularly smart one at that. He continually pounds his chest and proclaims of himself to be the best at everything and that nothing anyone has ever done before him was of much value to us. Yet...

God bless,
In Christ, ted

OK, surely you will give us some citations and literature to support that assertion.

I'm not your search engine and you should know your own history, but...

'The right of suffrage is a fundamental Article in Republican Constitutions. The regulation of it is, at the same time, a task of peculiar delicacy. Allow the right [to vote] exclusively to property [owners], and the rights of persons may be oppressed... . Extend it equally to all, and the rights of property [owners] ...may be overruled by a majority without property....' ..Madison

I wonder if the Supreme Court would consider it contempt of court. I don't think you can actually use an EO this way.

I thought they'd simply come up with a different excuse for doing it. The Court seemed to hint that they'd accept it.

Surely you've never thought the governments serve the common people. Even at the inception of the nation it was designed to serve and give power to only landowners.
You forget that the US Constitution, as originally written, does not lay out qualifications for voting privileges; that was left entirely to the individual states. And back then property, not money/cash, was the measure of a person's wealth as hard coin did not circulate freely....which in turn was due to the mercantilism imposed on Great Britain's colonies by the mother country.

And that is because landowners paid the taxes through property taxes....no sales taxes, no income taxes, no estate taxes, etc.
'So while the Constitution empowered the federal government to levy taxes, it limited this power mostly to indirect taxes such as tariffs, duties, and excise taxes. For much of American history, the federal government subsisted solely on those taxes."'

Hi CWB,

The site I looked at had the same total but said that it was up to 11/17. However, I double checked with a couple of other sites and it does look like that is the total pretty much to the current date. So, that makes him not so much higher than President Obama as I first showed. If we average the 114 out by months, that would be 2 years and 6 months, or 30 months, we have 3.8/month. Multiply that by 96 months (8 year term equal to President Obama's) we come up with 364 possible EO's if everything stays status quo. Thanks for the second look.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

It was either Jefferson or Jackson (One of those "J" guys in history) who said "The Supreme Court has issued its ruling. Now let's see them them enforce it."
It was President Jackson:
Remembering the Time Andrew Jackson Decided to Ignore the Supreme Court In the Name of Georgia’s Right to Cherokee Land
Interestingly enough that President's decision to ignore the Supreme Court led to "The Trail of Tears", the death of 4,000 native Americans and them being stripped of all their lands. :sigh:
tulc(in case anyone was curious what that quote led to)

If you post assertions, you should support them, surely.

I don't live in 1789, and what property owners thought then is not binding on anyone. The law is binding, and it has changed.
