From the "Get 'er done!" files: Trump pushes Georgia gov to use emergency powers to match absentee signatures

“Why won’t Governor @BrianKempGA, the hapless Governor of Georgia, use his emergency powers, which can be easily done, to overrule his obstinate Secretary of State, and do a match of signatures on envelopes. It will be a “goldmine” of fraud, and we will easily WIN the state….

Also, quickly check the number of envelopes versus the number of ballots. You may just find that there are many more ballots than there are envelopes. So simple, and so easy to do. Georgia Republicans are angry, all Republicans are angry. Get it done!”

Matching had already been done. Now there is no way to associate an envelope to a ballot, by design to conserve the privacy of the voters.

Why would they keep the envelopes? Surely they would have gone into the recycling bin.

Mr Trump is running out of clutchable straws.

If they destroyed the envelopes then they likely committed criminal fraud.

IIRC, such election materials for federal elections are required to be held for 22 months, for exactly the circumstances which exist now.

Donald couldn't do anything about what states chose to do in response to COVID, but he's sure getting involved in state's business now that he's lost an election. Kinda tells you a lot about his priorities.

Really? You’re sure about that? That would constitute fraud?

Trump would probably have been easily re-elected if he had put just half as much effort into fighting the pandemic as he has put into undermining our democratic institutions.

Two issues with this request:

1) The Governor is prohibited, by Georgia law, from interfering with an election. All Election duties reside with the Secretary of State.

2) The Georgia Governor is not given any Emergency Powers by either the Georgia Constitution or state law.

Not a lawyer, but there does not seem to be anything in the Georgia code requiring the retention of the outer envelope with the voter's identification on it once that identity has been verified and the ballot accepted.

And this shows that Trump is an idiot. It is too late to do this even if the governor agreed to.

There are valid reasons to keep the envelopes. Individuals may at times inquire if their personal vote was counted. Finding the envelope verifies this. Sometimes votes are lost in the mail. But it is impossible to tell who that person voted for since once verified, and this is done before the ballot is counted, the ballot itself is separated from its envelope. A point that Trump conspiracy supporters cannot seem to understand. The vote is an anonymous process so there cannot be, by law, a way to figure out how a person voted.

Really? For exactly the circumstance that you have a disgraceful president that loses by over 6 million votes, refuses to concede and throws out over 40 baseless lawsuits and many more baseless allegations. In particular a baseless allegation that "may just find" more ballots than envelopes without any reason to suspect there is.

You may just find that there are many more ballots than there are envelopes.
It's just desperation from a sore loser.

Just verified? You’ve just verified the statute above doesn’t require the envelopes be preserved.

Now, if you read the statute, and upon reading it had to guess, what would your guess be as to why the statute doesn’t require preservation of the envelope?

Perhaps you can show me where "all records and papers" means except "signed" envelopes. Thanks in advance.

I am agreeing with you that they do have to preserve the records. They almost certainly have.

So what?

They verified the signatures. People of both parties were there for that step. Remember, ballots cannot be counted until after they are separated from the envelopes so what good would it do to look at the envelopes again? What is the point? It looks like another massive waste of time that could not affect the outcome of the election.

Apart from the legal impossibility...
perhaps it's because Trump called him hapless? Not to mention an embarrassment and an endorsement he regrets. Why would help Kemp lift the tiniest finger?

That seems to be the problem. People weren't. Also, if the number of ballots doesn't match the number of signatures that may be an indication of overt fraud.
Remember, ballots cannot be counted until after they are separated from the envelopes so what good would it do to look at the envelopes again? What is the point?
The traditional remedy, the actual legal precedent, is to remove a number of ballots equal to the number known to be non-compliant. It's not a perfect remedy but it is sufficient that the party which cheated doesn't want that remedy to be implemented.

Of course there were people from both parties, that is SOP. Or are you claiming that since it is a Republican controlled state that there were no Democrats there? Either way you need to provide evidence for your claim.

How can you remove ballots? That is not possible. The ballots and envelopes are separated.

The Republican governor must be in on it. No one should vote for him. Or for the GOP senator candidates. Or the GOP Secretary of State. Only people named Trump can be trusted.

That is the point, we need to find out who these people who voted AGAINST President Trump are, where they live, and take care of them so it doesn’t happen again.
