I'm saddened that none of our conservative friends on this forum have posted in this thread yet.

The goats are still mulling it over.

Trump calls for delay to 2020 US election

He actually did it... Seems like every time one of my reactionary, lefty friends gets worked up about some thing they predict he'll do, I always think to myself, "Come on, that's not going to happen." And then it does.
As in much propaganda, Trump's three question marks gives him plausible deniability that he ever said such a thing.

Trump Proposes Delaying Election

Given that its 4 months before the 2020 Election and Trump is already signaling his supporters to prepare themselves for a constitutional crisis in November - either he will postpone the Election or refuse to accept the outcome based on mail-in ballots!

This may be one of those watershed periods in American history where citizens will have to decide as to whether their loyalties lie with this President or the Constitution!

lol, just one more way in which Baltimore wants to be Philly. I like the postal service; I frequently defend it; it's web site is better than its competitors; and for small packages, it's typically cheaper. But my neighborhood PO has a long and well-earned reputation for being exceptionally, almost comically bad. I've lived here 5 years and not once has the mail carrier taken a piece of outgoing mail from my mail box.

...and compound that by the fact that this test CBS did was at time when it was just 100 they mailed. They're going to be even busier and more short-staffed when it comes time for actual mail in ballots. In fairness to them, they're going to be swamped when that occurs unless they hire a lot of seasonal help for the occasion...and if a particular branch/city is already having some difficulties, being swamped isn't going to improve that at all.

A 3% misdelivery rate equates to a pretty big number when considering the millions of votes that will be getting mailed. ...and their second test where it'd been 4 days, and 21% still hadn't arrived yet could be exacerbated during an environment where their workload is going to be quite a bit larger than it normally is. I'd think it's probably going to be similar to the Christmas volume they get between Dec. 16th-21st every year.

I've been voting by mail for the last several elections. So long as you don't wait until the last possible day to mail it, there should not be a problem. In Arizona, one can check online to confirm your mail in ballot was processed.

Like I noted from the CBS test they did...batch 2 (where 21% still hadn't made it there yet despite it being 4 business days, and only getting delivered to a PO box in the same city where the ballot was dropped in the mail) does show a potential issue with timeliness and creates a few logistics problems.

For the first test where they just flat out lost 3% of them, that's a bigger issue.

I know some folks are afraid of "big tech", but I'd actually be more comfortable with a computerized system similar to how they did the census. They mail you a letter with your confirmation code (and when you fill it out online, you have to verify your identity by having the confirmation code match another piece of personal information).

If there's a website where you can check whether it's been processed, it's either a person keying it in, or some sort of scanning software reading it in to the system, why not just cut out the middle man and have people vote online when they can?

I understand that for older people not all may be tech savvy or even have internet access, but in those cases, they're not going to be able to use the online confirmation tools you're describing anyway.

They're either

a) ignoring it entirely.
or
b) waiting for their fellow independent thinkers provide them with a narrative to parrot.
c) There will be earth-shattering responses on Wednesday.

They are actually at Michie’s thread. It looked like a place where reality marched to die.

Republicans really hurt Trump by failing to keep the House in 2018.
Trump is not accountable for a fall in popularity of the republican party?

Interestingly, moving the election back would give Barr more time to release the Durham Report but also gives more time for SDNY to get Trump’s financial records. Fine needle Trump is trying to thread here.
I feel the Durham report will be pointless, it'll likely turn up some mistakes but will not be an exposing of a "Deep State" and Democratic conspiracy to overthrow Trump.

One would think, if Trump is innocent then releasing his financial records won't hurt him at all. All other presidents have willingly released theirs. What's the big deal?

Besides Trump isn't really that thoughtful.
I'm sure he just sees the bad polling results, blames the coronovirus for the economy and thinks if he can hold off the election long enough the country will miraculously get better, the economy will get better and the people will vote for him again.

I heard some people were saying "Trump was joking???"... Ha Ha ha ha ha ha ???
4.5 million testing positive, 60,000+ new cases daily, 152,000 deaths, 50 million unemployed, Americans lined up for miles to receive food hampers and testing -- the last thing the nation needs is a President substituting comedy for leadership!

If Trump really is our bulwark against a descent into socialism, then whats so bad about a delay of a year or so if needed to prevent a D victory?
The Deomocrats won't bring about sociallism, but they probably will take coronavirus seriously and will get on top of it, so in a year, USA will be in a healthy state and the economy will be on the path back up.

If Trump stays in power, then a year from now you will have 2 million dead and Trump still arguing that more tests are causing the bad numbers and that USA is doing the best in the world and HydroxyChoroquine is the cure.

My post #65 was about propaganda and plausible deniability???... In addressing your post I will say that some people are saying Trump's leadership is a joke, and some people are saying what's happening under his leadership is no joke. When I study the semantical differences I can agree with both.
