It would be. It traditionally goes to the longest serving member of the majority party which would be Leahy but it is not required to be and is voted on. Chuck Grassley, the longest serving Republican is the current one.
Leahy 2020.

Trump trying to plant the seeds of conspiracy in the minds of his base by hinting at the notion that "mail-in voting will be manipulated and fraudulent" isn't a hard charade to see through.

Mail-in voting makes it easier to vote, for people who are in demographic groups that aren't likely to vote for Trump.

Let's be honest here, if there was a nefarious entity looking to fix the outcome of an election, and had this mysterious power to do so, they wouldn't have to leverage the postal system to do it. They'd could simply just wait until all the ballots are in, then chuck them in the trash or burn them...that'd make more sense then some wild conspiracy that would involve swearing hundreds of postal workers to secrecy lol.

I do have some concerns about mail-in voting, simply due to the aspect that I don't know if I trust the postal service as a whole to be reliable to get all of the votes there on time without losing too many of them or delivering them to the wrong place. Not out of any fear of them trying to engage in voter fraud, just in terms of general incompetency and unreliability. (But maybe I'm just bitter, they've misdelivered 2 of my last 7 shipments)

CBS did a little experiment by setting up a mock mail-in voting test, where they registered a PO Box in Philadelphia where the votes were to be delivered, and then mailed in two batches of 100 mock ballots from random places throughout the city.

The tests didn't go too well.

For the first batch, 3% didn't make it to their intended destination (even though other ballots that were mailed from the same location at the same time did make it...IE, they lost them)

The second batch was even worse, after 4 business days, 21% still hadn't arrived yet.

They found other inconsistencies as well. Initially, the post office was not able to find most of the ballots when Dokupil went to pick them up and other unrelated mail was delivered to the P.O. box. “We got a birthday card from Mike to Ronnie. Have a sweet b-day. Get it? There’s a bee on top,” Dokoupil said.

The fake ballots used the same class of mail, the same size envelope, and were folded the same way as real ballots to approximate the weight.

His base won’t care even if it is obvious. They wouldn’t be his base if they did.

So those seeds will be used for whatever is convenient if and when Trump loses the election.

Should he happen to win it will be despite this nefarious mail charade and if he loses it will be because of it.

Few things he says are hard to see through. And yet....

lol, just one more way in which Baltimore wants to be Philly. I like the postal service; I frequently defend it; it's web site is better than its competitors; and for small packages, it's typically cheaper. But my neighborhood PO has a long and well-earned reputation for being exceptionally, almost comically bad. I've lived here 5 years and not once has the mail carrier taken a piece of outgoing mail from my mail box.

Sounds like you need to move to Glen Burnie.

Which is what trump has wanted all along.

Think about it. He practially worships the dictators of the world, and wishes he could be one.

One of the things his supporters most liked about trump was that he was a "successful businessman" and they hoped that he would run the country like a corporate CEO. Well, many businesses ARE dictatorships. When the CEO wants something or wants something done a particular way (even if it's a horrible idea), then his underlings are required to jump through hopes to make it happen. You expect SMART CEOs to surround themselves with experienced, intelligent staff to help him make the best decisions for "the company", but we all know that that's NOT the way trump operates. From everything I've read, the entire trump empire was just trump, his kids and a handful of underlings doing trumps bidding. And the dictator at the top, through incompetence and laziness somehow found a way to squander fortunes to the point where he had to accept money from russian mafia, er, banks, to stay afloat. Is it a surprise that trump is trying to run the country the same way he ran his (bankrupt) casinos, by fiat, by executive order, by bullying, by threatening, by legal action, by intimidation?

"President for life...Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot someday" - Donald Trump

trump and Melania voted by mail (and used an illegitimate address as their home address, voter fraud anyone?).

How more obvious can it get?

And, yes, his supporters won't care one iota.

I'll be interested to see if any of the folks agreeing with him about the flaws of mail-in voting will be the same folks who complained about the Democrats' pushing for funding in the first covid relief bill of provisions to shore up the security of mail-in voting.
I'm more curious to know if the folks agreeing with him about the flaws of mail-in voting know that Donald voted by mail.

I've been voting by mail for the last several elections. So long as you don't wait until the last possible day to mail it, there should not be a problem. In Arizona, one can check online to confirm your mail in ballot was processed.

I would also point out that in Washington state, where it is mail in ballots, you don't have to use the post office. You can just drop it off at a secure ballot box.

I'm saddened that none of our conservative friends on this forum have posted in this thread yet.

I guess they’re working on a response. They’re all sure he’ll win. So it’s kinda tough to explain why their man would want to delay the election.
