Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and running mate Mike Pence will visit flood-damaged areas of Baton Rouge, La. Friday.

Record flooding across Louisiana has killed at least 13 people. Over 85,000 people have registered for federal disaster assistance, more than 30,000 have been rescued, and an estimated 40,000 homes have been damaged.

***

Such a kind gesture it is for this wonderfully nice business man to go out of his way while on the campaign trail to visit those poor souls in Louisiana. That horrible man Obama is too busy playing golf of course.

Prayers for all those suffering in La. :crosseo::crosseo::crosseo:

No, not really. The governor for Louisiana said that they have received lots of assistance and Fema was there helping. In contrast, with Katrina, they did not get the help they needed. There were problems with FEMA.

Also, Governor Edwards said that having the president come at this time though would take away officers and other first responders away from rescue operations. Add to that, the freeway has to be cleared for his visit when he is traveling, and that would also be disruptive as they are trying to make sure they have everyone rescued. The governor said that more donations were needed to the Red Cross.

The two situations are different in that in 2005, they knew Katrina was coming and the preparations in New Orleans were not enough on many levels (evacuate to the Astrodome but no food or water there). This wasn't a named storm at all. It was not expected.

People hold Obama to a different standard than the standard that Bush was held to during Hurricane Katrina.

It's the same standard.

The reason for your confusion is that you think that the standard has something to do with their actions, rather than with their political affiliation.

Well, being a liberal means never having to say you're sorry.
Normally though, standards are presumed to be based on behavior rather than on who you are.

It is the difference between being a country based on law, or a country based on men.
Who you are takes precedence over what you do.

Interesting, isn't it?
It is noteworthy. It was rather striking at how Hurricane Katrina really turned things negative for Bush. It was almost reminiscent of the old Chinese system where bad natural events were indicative to the people that the Emperor had lost the Mandate of Heaven.
But we are back to normalcy now, with an act of God having no more meaning written into it than random nature, and platitudes are no longer deemed necessary.

The media must be this point no longer be really concerned about whether they have legitimacy or not. As long as being seen as cog in the Democratic machine does not affect the bottom line, they do not even have to pretend to any objective standards.
It is a corrupt system from the top to the bottom and inside out.
