You sure it doesn't relate to your thread? If the purpose of your thread was to create disdain towards Trump for using the "Kung" word you define it as a racist act if it's not a racist act which is horrible if Obama uses it then it CAN'T be judged that towards Trump. Isn't that clear?

Obama didn't use it. He didn't hold a rally and use the term at all.

The website of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System and the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center each used images and the term "Kung Flu" back in 2015. It wasn't directed at China or derogatory at that time to China specifically as the there wasn't a particular flu originating in China at the time. In fact, the main flu in 2015 was H1N1 which originated in Mexico at a pig farm half owned by a US company - Smithfield Foods.

Trump's use of the word just shows that he is a divisive person who relies on attempts to denigrate others in order to bump up himself. He looks to be flailing around.

Smithfield foods is a wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China.

Trump's use of the term "Kung flu" is to reference the fact that China exported this disease to the rest of the world. Many of us suspect that this was done intentionally as there seems no other conclusion to reach when the Chinese government restricted travel within China from the province of the disease's origin while allowing international travel from that same area. They were obviously aware of the danger and took extraordinary measures to keep it from spreading within China while allowing, if not encouraging, their people to spread the virus internationally

Kung Flu is a humorous term, and during times like this humor helps people cope. Anybody who would deny people humor at such a time is a sad and sorry soul certainly not worth listening to.

Sure, the president of the US can just insult an entire nation, who cares? If only there were other forms of humour...to bad we only have moronic racist jokes to fall back on eh.

Yep. It is a US company based in Virginia that is a wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China who half owned a pig farm in Mexico where the H1N1 originated.

No, it is to blame someone else for his response and to smear that someone else.

China has a lot to answer for - I agree with that.

I suppose that's decided on the level of sensitivity that each one chooses to have about such things. I think some still might or could suggest they're making a link back to China for all viruses. If not why didn't they use American Boxing images. No I"m not a fan of leaning towards being extremely sensitive about every statement some make but doesn't that seem to be the world we're living in?

Why boxing images? That wouldn't have worked. At least they were referring to something that rhymed - Kung Fu. Boxing in't called Boxing Fu.

The Kung Flu campaigns were limited and scuttled. Obama never used it in campaign rallies or to blame someone else for the flu. It was just to encourage folks to do the things to fight spreading the H1N1 flu.

Smithfield originated as a US company, still based in Virginia that was bought by WH foods in China.

Now it is clearer why Trump wanted that Smithfield factory open in Souix Falls despite the risk to US citizens working there. They have been sending record amounts of meat to China.

Let me stop you right there: a racist "joke" is no less racist just because you personally aren't offended by it, or because you find it funny.
tulc(just thought that should be pointed out)

It's not racist if the subject of the joke agrees that it's funny.

As I said, it ascribes a Chinese origin to virus that did in fact originate in China. See how people become so protective of a repressive regime the moment Trump criticizes it...

Like Trump, you seem to have confused the repressive regime (whom Trump encouraged to build concentration camps) with the people of China. As Trump did.

China has a lot to answer for - I agree with that.

February 26, 2020: "I spoke with President Xi. We had a great talk. He’s working very hard, I have to say. He’s working very, very hard. And if you can count on the reports coming out of China, that spread has gone down quite a bit. The infection seems to have gone down over the last two days. As opposed to getting larger, it’s actually gotten smaller. In one instance where we think we can be — it’s somewhat reliable, it seems to have gotten quite a bit smaller."

Remarks by President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Members of the Coronavirus Task Force in Press Conference | The White House

Exactly true, for a time China was praised... then because of trump's chaotic and inept response the need to cast blame, as always, without taking any responsibility.

If COVID-19 had occured when a virus from a bat cave in Austin spread to a domestic animal, and then to humans would you blame America? So that's not the agenda behind the racist "kung flu" story.

Exactly true, for a time China was praised... then because of trump's chaotic and inept response the need to cast blame, as always, without taking any responsibility.

I think you have it exactly right.

Theres nothing funny about his joke at all. Especially when we have Asians living here in America who have seen an increase in racist attacks

That's not even on Trump's radar; all that matters to him is finding someone to take the blame off himself.
