This is no big surprise. It's what the Dems have been clamoring for since the election. Pelosi said her self this has been going on since then. They finally stepped into their own manure and couldn't get out. It was too late. They had to do something. So they came up with the lamest things they could find because they didn't really have anything. Just so they could hang an asterisk on his presidency. It's going to come back and bite them hard

Nice try, what I said was this is so lame and so broad and so subjective as to be meaningless. Because we could hang that on just about every president. When it applies like that impeachment becomes meaningless. And this is as worthless and meaningless as it gets.

A lot of people voted for Democrats to be their representative to act as a check on President Trump. They are doing exactly what they were voted to do.

Holding this president accountable is exactly what Democrats like myself came out to vote for last November. I wasn’t voting for an impeachment specifically but I’m not upset that this president now has a permanent stain on his record. This will be such an old story by next November, I honestly doubt it’ll change much of anyone’s mind.

Presidents should be impeached every single time they recruit foreign countries to interfere in our elections. That is the message the House wants to send and I think it’s a good one. Not one single person can justify Trump investigating the Bidens through Ukraine. And so now we know at the very least, that action will get you impeached by the House.

The president of the United States attempted to use bribery of a foreign power for personal gain.

    Those are the facts.

Pretending that it's "weak" or finding some other excuse to say it's not "that bad" is meaningless faff.

The president abused the office, and there must be consequences. Even if he is not removed from office it is essential to the integrity of the republic that presidents be held accountable.

This has nothing to do with partisanship, it has everything to do with the integrity of the office, and of the republic itself.

No. The House has brought out the facts of the matter as testified to by the witnesses, and so the facts have been made publicly known, and it is on the basis of those facts--that the president abused the office of the presidency for personal gain--that he has been impeached.

That you don't like the facts is irrelevant.

Except that for his supporters it's not a stain on his record, it's a badge of honor.

From the Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump:

    ARTICLE I: ABUSE OF POWER

The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives “shall have the sole Power of Impeachment” and that the President “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors”. In his conduct of the office of President of the United States — and in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed — Donald J. Trump has abused the powers of the Presidency, in that:

Using the powers of his high office, President Trump solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, in the 2020 United States Presidential election. He did so through a scheme or course of conduct that included soliciting the Government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations that would benefit his reelection, harm the election prospects of a political opponent, and influence the 2020 United States Presidential election to his advantage. President Trump also sought to pressure the Government of Ukraine to take these steps by conditioning official United States Government acts of significant value to Ukraine on its public announcement of the investigations. President Trump engaged in this scheme or course of conduct for corrupt purposes in pursuit of personal political benefit. In so doing, President Trump used the powers of the Presidency in a manner that compromised the national security of the United States and undermined the integrity of the United States democratic process. He thus ignored and injured the interests of the Nation.

President Trump engaged in this scheme or course of conduct through the following means:

    (1) President Trump — acting both directly and through his agents within and outside the United States Government — corruptly solicited the Government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations into —

    (A) a political opponent, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.; and

    (B) a discredited theory promoted by Russia alleging that Ukraine — rather than Russia — interfered in the 2016 United States Presidential election.

    (2) With the same corrupt motives, President Trump — acting both directly and through his agents within and outside the United States Government — conditioned two official acts on the public announcements that he had requested

    (A) the release of $391 million of United States taxpayer funds that Congress had appropriated on a bipartisan basis for the purpose of providing vital military and security assistance to Ukraine to oppose Russian aggression and which President Trump had ordered suspended; and

    (B) a head of state meeting at the White House, which the President of Ukraine sought to demonstrate continued United States support for the Government of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

    (3) Faced with the public revelation of his actions, President Trump ultimately released the military and security assistance to the Government of Ukraine, but has persisted in openly and corruptly urging and soliciting Ukraine to undertake investigations for his personal political benefit.
These actions were consistent with President Trump’s previous invitations of foreign interference in United States elections.

In all of this, President Trump abused the powers of the Presidency by ignoring and injuring national security and other vital national interests to obtain an improper personal political benefit. He has also betrayed the Nation by abusing his high office to enlist a foreign power in corrupting democratic elections.

Wherefore President Trump, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law. President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.

Trump will be reelected because the Democrats are incapable to present a real alternative.

If our country ever faces a serious crises with Trump, surrounded by no one to stop his worst instincts, I genuinely fear for our country and world.

Your last sentence is why I have to wonder WHY they didn't wait to get something with a little more meat on the bone - as far as charges.

You will always have ardent supporters for any candidate, but majority of people need something clear and damning.

Parts of the approach are open to interpretation now, and it's not going to change any minds due to that. Some will view this as one party clamoring to do this since the man took office - which isn't a good image. The whole Russia thing blew up, and I don't think people stopped to realize how much that upset people on both sides. Not everyone is so strictly partisan. It does cast doubt on this as well.

The charges they voted on aren't the ones that they have touted in the media forever now. That doesn't bode well either. People will nit pic about the phone call, but the second article was used because they didn't want to go to court to force the subject. Something they have done for just about everything the President has done since taking office. They told the American people we have an election coming, and we couldn't wait - as an excuse. That's pretty lame. It looks desperate more than meaningful and caring.

I have to agree with you there. It's a shame too. Democrats DO have decent people in their party that could make good President. I think their their tunnel vision today is going to kill their chances for making a meaningful impact. I also think they have overlooked their assets as well.

I remember as an older child when Nixon left office. Everyone just about at the end thought he was a crook. The whole thing just over the top upsetting. I grew up with one parent on each side of the aisle, which made of interesting dinner conversations. lol! Yet, both of them agreed this man had to go. I think his VP took a hit on his election for pardoning him. That's my opinion.

Clinton was in a period of my life in which I had other things on my mind, and I wasn't paying as close attention to things. Looking back now you see things that were going on that I missed, and it puts the pieces together better for me now. Yet, at the time? I think looking into Hillary's and Chelsea's faces and body language on the news after the whole Monica deal is what changed my mind about him. I was young then, and I couldn't imagine all the hurt and humiliation that man put them thought on the world stage. My sympathy at the time is what prompted my feelings towards his impeachment, and I was mad that he wasn't removed over that. lol NOT a good reason, but it's the truth! I wanted him out so she could divorce him, and allow him to marinate in shame. My thought wasn't about the perjury, but his family. I didn't care about the crime, but the breach of trust he broke in such a public way towards his family. I felt if they couldn't trust him no one should. That was my youthful and not so informed viewpoint at the time. lol what can I say!

I'm afraid this time is going to look more vengeful and with no alternative in place. They have already foretold what the talking points will be. He cheated at this election to, and we plan on taking another bite out of the apple for impeachment. It might be a stain on Trump, but certain Democrats will be sharing that with him in history. Their plans to get him down even before he got into office isn't going to look all that great for them either.

The rules have changed now for future Presidents, and I can't imagine what they have to look forward too. I know I'm not looking forward to it.
