As Sam Harris perspicaciously stated: "I would take a randomly selected person over Donald Trump - and do you realize how badly that could turn out". So, yes, I would prefer Chuck Shumer. In fact, I would prefer Chuck Norris to Donald Trump.

Prefer all you want. You can't vote here.

Troops along the Canadian border.

I thought the walls were the way to go. Border wall with Canada would be like a tremendous job. All those billions would really shore up the economy at this moment in time.

That sounds like the reaction Trump got when he banned travel from China. The WHO said it wasn't necessary. Now Trump is being criticized for not banning travel from China soon enough.

If Canada has a serious outbreak of the virus Canadians will cross the border for better health care.
Canada has the better healthcare and less cases per capita. The flow would be the other way.

Or vice versa.

Here's the problem, without strong protections in place prior to a crisis the cat will have already left the bag. I'm thinking New Yorkers are getting into flee mode, best time to combat that is now before theres an issue that's out of hand.

If Canada doesn't care for those protections now, then they will just have to deal with the fall out later...

Ever think it keeps ours from going up there?

That is around 5,500 miles of border. Good luck on enforcing that if people really wanted to cross.

Also why would Trump be worried about people crossing to Canada? How would that fit in to his rhetoric that everything is just beachy and US healthcare is the best in the world and he has done everything correctly ?

People stampeding to "socialist" Canada would hardly make a case for him before the election.

If Canada wants New Yorkers or others more power to you... just don't complain later.

Right now the New York wealthy are getting out. At some point there will be poor trying to leave too.

It's not for "socialist" health care perse, it's to flee from sick people fearing becoming one, fleeing to areas where the healthcare system is less stressed and so forth.

People haven't began panicking yet..... and it's likely with fema hospitals, the hospital ship and more it wont over stress the healthcare system, but if it doesn't New Yorkers will begin panicking and looking for any way out.

Any particular reason they would head to Canada instead of heading to rural US ?

Because rural U.S. is more likely than not to throw up blockades and not let them pass at some point.

People are scared... they do crazy things when they're scared.

So Americans get scared and Canadians do not ? That does not really fit MAGA narrative either.

No... this mindset we are seeing, people fighting over toilet paper when there's no shortage, people afraid to die when they are more likely than not to live etc. None of it fits the model.

But then, there's been a concerted effort by media and the left against unifying as a country on the basis that we are all Americans with a shared love of freedom, so the fall out from this would be fallout from 24/7 divide and conquer going on this last decade.

Make movies like "the hunt", "the purge" and 24/7 hate the country dweller, the deplorables, the fly over country media, and you'll see the fallout in a pandemic where cities are more likely to be hardest hit...

Those safe havens they hope for might not be there for them...so north they might go...

It's just something to consider is all. Actions usually have consequences.

you need to break from the narrative that it is the left that's segmenting America. Nobody wants to unite; they want people to agree and be the same as them. That's not uniting.
Govt also needs to behave in a way to inspire unity and that doesn't happen with Trump sadly; much in part due to him but not totally. And now is not The time to band together for freedom; you need to band together for communal well being.

There are populated places where the only "border" is an unfenced ditch between two roads. Last year a car with some British citizens crossed the border on two of those roads. They simply drove across the ditch. They had their own story, but that fell apart because though it is unfenced that does not mean that there was not surveillance. Video refuted their claims of turning to avoid an animal. And the fact that they had been previously denied entry explained why they tried to enter illegally.

It is rather rare for people to try to cross illegally from Canada, but it does happen on rare occasions. It would not justify a military presence at all.
