Trump finds consistent foil in 'Squad'

President Trump's tweet saying Israel should deny entry to two of his domestic political opponents was just the latest example of him elevating "The Squad," the group of four progressive congresswomen he wants to make the face of the Democratic Party.

Trump has repeatedly gone after the four outspoken Democratic freshmen - Reps. Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) - who have carved an outsized presence on Capitol Hill since their arrival in January.

Trump demeans himself by targeting these four neophytes. It is like the Alpha lion of the pride trying to eat the cubs of a rival lion. It is quite unpresidential but then again that is par for the course.

Or it could be an electoral strategy.

He certainly didn't have to try very hard. In his initial "Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came." He didn't even mention them by name. Apparently they knew the kind of districts they represent though, and assumed that the President must have been talking about them...

When comparing what he wants the face of the Democratic Party to be, the Democrats come out on top because Trump is the face of the Republican Party and Republicans are are having a hard time accepting all of his antics and are fleeing.

Yes, his base is pleased but we see week by week that many who voted for him in 2016 and who have supported him since the election are abandoning him and in some cases leaving the GOP and become Independents and condemning Trump.

Looking at the Democratic Party right now I don't believe it.

I'm sure the Israeli government relishes the role of playing "stooges" for this President - serving as the "sharp end of his spear" to punish these congressional opponents on his personal "enemies list!"

Virtually every Jewish group in America have denounced the President's actions because this "stunt" has just given these women far more media exposure and credibility than they would have had otherwise!

The Israeli government is also in the embarrassing, no-win position of explaining to the world as to why they blocked the visit - after earlier announcing publically that Reps. Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.) would be free to visit their country!

They don't have to explain anything to anybody - and probably won't.

Jewish groups in America who lobby Congress and whose support Israel depends upon have been consistently opposed to this decision and demanding answers - it would be fascinating to be a fly on the wall in the Israeli cabinet as they try to extricate themselves from this dilemma of Trump's making!

These Jewish groups are probably "grilling" the Israel government as to the wisdom of being seen as punishing this President's congressional opponents, when even the FOXNEWS polls indicate that in 15 months he'll probably be voted out of office and replaced by a Democrat!

The main reason they're not happy with the decision is that they're afraid that support for Israel in the US will suffer - apparently Bibi isn't. Personally, I couldn't care less.

Whaa? Even the New York Times is admitting that President Trump's base is bigger now than it was in 2016. His approval rating among the people who voted for him is in the high 80's. Independents and moderate liberals are politically homeless but more of both believe that the Democrats are too far left than believe the Republicans are too far right.

Trump's base can't elect him again just as any of the Democrats base can't get them elected. The key has always been the swing voters. The Pew Research Center shows that more Independents are leaning Democrat. Right now the Independents which lean left plus Democrats make up 48% of the voters while right leaning Independents plus Republicans make up 39% of the voters. They key will be those in the middle with no lean.
