“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor,” Trump tweeted early Saturday, as fires consumed portions of the state in the north and the south. “Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”

Not until 14 hours later did he express sympathy for the victims.

That is the job of mid to upper level management, but not always those wheeler dealers at the very top. Trump has been at the very top for most of his life.

I am not making an excuse for his excesses. Just saying it is consistent with his business management style.

Right -- they started on federal lands, grew out of control because the feds didn't have the means to deal with it, and are now spilling onto state lands.

It's about time someone said that.

He made the mistake many men make in marriage when their wife expresses distress over something and the man tries to immediately fix it before he even offers any sympathy at all. It's a mistake that hopefully men learn better than early in marriage, or else cause pain/conflict if they can't learn this. I plead guilty myself, and it took quite a while for me to learn better. So....after expressing real sympathy (trump did get around to that after he flubbed up at first seems like I saw), then, later, try to offer the solution. We do indeed need different management than in the past now that climate change is gonna make a lot of forests burn a lot more.

There is shared Federal and State responsibility for management of the forest and the budget to fight wildfires. Also, people are building homes in areas that are vulnerable to fires. However, an ever drier climate is leading to bigger and more intense wildfires in California and across the West. Trump and his followers, however, continue deny climate has any relation to the fires whatsoever....
