Says if liquor stores and abortion clinics are essential, churches are essential; that we need more prayer, not less.

I would not say any of those are essential.

We have had it to easy as a country. We haven't known national sacrifice since WWII. We can stand to shelter at home for a few months more.

And we would not be sheltering at home now if people would stop sneaking out for a get together or get a hair cut.

Here's the thing though, he cannot force a governor to open churches in their state. So, saying that he can override the governors is false and he does not have that power, nor should he. It needs to be left up to the individual states and their governors, not a president who has already threatened action he cannot take.

...it's good Trump finally took a breath...for a minute there, I thought he was going to need essential, devine intervention. [...he seemed a bit anxious, even agitated...hmmm]

The Catholic bishops of Minnesota, not generally known for acts of defiance, have let it be known that the governor of Minnesota does not have the power to close churches or open them. The bishops closed their churches before the governor said a thing about it and they are carefully opening them up again against the will of the governor. We'll see how this one turns out. The bishops are calling the governor's bluff.

I thought it odd that hundreds of people could crowd a big box store and yet a huge cathedral couldn't have anybody in it. It didn't add.

If a church wants to defy the orders of the governor, that's on them, but my point is that Trump cannot override the governors. He does not have that kind of power. Even though he repeatedly thinks he does.

I don’t see how opening churches helps the economy in any meaningful way. If it serves to spread the virus it’ll end up doing more harm than good to have them open.

It helps Donald's election -- he hasn't got a prayer otherwise.

It's not about the economy, it's about the first amendment and rational thought...

If it's perfectly okay, healthy, etc to attend the crowds at walmart, lowes, liquor stores and tobacco shops its perfectly okay to attend any other public place... church included.

The government doesn't dole out the first amendment, they are charged with not interfering with it.

I agree liquor stores and tobacco shops aren't really necessities and you can older that stuff online. Walmart and to a lesser degree, but still needed, Lowes are necessities as people need to eat and if something happens to their home, they need supplies to repair it. Can these things be ordered online, sure, but I don't want a stranger picking out my meats and vegetables.

Church services can be streamed online, it doesn't need to be in person.
