WASHINGTON – Still fighting political flaps that arose during his weekend in France, President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the Secret Service nixed a visit to a cemetery in the rain because the motorcade would have shut down Paris.

"When the helicopter couldn’t fly to the first cemetery in France because of almost zero visibility, I suggested driving," Trump tweeted. "Secret Service said NO, too far from airport & big Paris shutdown."

Trump took heat back home after the White House announced it had canceled a trip to Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial near Paris "due to scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather," including rain and fog.

The statement said nothing about a possible motorcade. Trump, who traveled to Paris for a series of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, spent Saturday afternoon out of the public eye...Others pointed out world leaders such as Emmanuel Macron of France, Angela Merkel of Germany and Justin Trudeau of Canada managed to attend events Saturday despite the rain.

President Trump blames Secret Service for canceling cemetery trip in France

Does he ever take personal responsibility for anything?

Personal responsibility for security decisions? No. That's up to the secret service.

...which I believe doesn't comment on those concerns thus making them a convenient scapegoat for a President who's famous for not taking responsibility for anything he does wrong.

Are we to assume that Trump canceled the trip to the memorial service simply because he did not want to go?

That seems to be the question here.

No, the real question here is: "does the Secret Service tell the President he can't do things like he's some kid they're babysitting or do they try and make it safe for him to do what he wants?"
tulc(is pretty sure it's the latter and not the former) :sorry:

USSS gave 'stay' alerts preventing travel.
Fake news making up bogus stories.
But that's what they do...
Throwing sticks.
But they're boomerangs. ;)

Yes, the secret service does just that.

One of the things the secret service does is weld the lids of manhole covers shut along a presidential motorcade route. How long would that have taken?

Odd that other heads of state had no trouble negotiating traffic to get there. As usual, a changing story, endless excuses, and blaming others.

He never takes personal responsibility for anything.
