United Arab Emirates and Israel agree to 'full normalization' of diplomatic relations, Trump announces

President Trump on Thursday announced what he called a “Historic Peace Agreement” between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, saying they agreed to “full normalization of relations.”

“HUGE breakthrough today! Historic Peace Agreement between our two GREAT friends, Israel and the United Arab Emirates!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

The president, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed released a joint statement Thursday, after the three spoke “and agreed to the full normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.” The statement said that the “diplomatic breakthrough” was at “the request of President Trump,” and that Israel will “suspend declaring sovereignty over areas outlined in the President’s Vision for Peace and focus its efforts now on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.”

Israel and the UAE also said they will continue their efforts to “achieve a just, comprehensive and enduring resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

Israel will “suspend declaring sovereignty over areas outlined in the President’s Vision for Peace “

But illegal settlements and areas not outlined in President’s Vision are by definition fine ?

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed presented the matter differently than Trump, emphasizing the suspension of sovereignty plans over normalization. He tweeted that “an agreement was reached to stop further Israeli annexation of Palestinian territories. The UAE and Israel also agreed to cooperation and setting a roadmap towards establishing a bilateral relationship.”Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem and Washington, however, said that the extension of Israeli law to the settlements had only been temporarily put aside.“Sovereignty is on the agenda and we are committed to it,” the Israeli source said. “The Trump administration asked to temporarily suspend the announcement in order to first enact the historic peace treaty with the Emirates.”
Israel and UAE reach historic peace deal, Israel to suspend annexation

We can hope for the best but this agreement may quickly end when Israel goes back to annexing Palestinian areas of the West Bank.

Of course the UAE is aiding the Arabs in Yemen against the Shiites there, and the Shiites are aided by Iran, who Israel hates.

So, there is an agenda for Israel and the UAE to hold hands for now.

I really wonder just how much Trump actually did diplomatically but this is certainly a positive step forward.
It doesn't make any difference how much he was involved. He was the one who appointed whatever individuals to do the work.....his administration gets the credit and rightly can be called the Trump agreement.

From my perspective, of the Islamic faiths, the Shiites are more tolerant of other faiths than the Sunni. In fact, Iran allows other religions to exist in their nation. Not so Saudi Arabia and other Sunni nations. The Sunnis in fact hate the Shiites and have persecuted them for centuries.

As Iran moves away from it's fundamentalist Shiites like the Ayatollah Khomeini, people of other religions are becoming more free.

Biden probably already forgot that Trump did it.
M

Biden, though, said that “the coming together of Israel and Arab states builds on the efforts of multiple administrations to foster a broader Arab-Israeli opening, including the efforts of the Obama-Biden administration to build on the Arab Peace Initiative.”
Biden praises Israel-UAE peace deal announced by Trump, credits Obama administration

He also said,
Biden went on to say that “annexation would be a body blow to the cause of peace, which is why I oppose it now and would oppose it as president,” and "would virtually end any chance of a two-state solution that would secure Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state and uphold the right of Palestinians to a state of their own.”

Biden added: “By forestalling that possibility and replacing it with the hope of greater connection and integration in the region, the United Arab Emirates and Israel have pointed a path toward a more peaceful, stable Middle East.”

Trump has done what others haven't.

Other countries are also interested in joining in.

Thank you President Trump.

M
How convenient that 2 of Trump's friends would provide him with yet another talking point and diversion - just weeks before the Republican Convention and 4 months before the 2020 Election!

Are we to believe that in the middle of a Pandemic, this President found time to successfully navigate the complexities of Israeli - Arab politics, but not when it comes to providing a comprehensive nationwide COVID-19 testing program?

Given that the United States shares 5,250 miles of border with Canada and that both have the same limited medical toolkit when it comes to combating COVID-19, just how do the supporters of this President arrive at the conclusion that America "is doing great" combating the Pandemic - based on the facts?
