We have a history of Native Americans. The Nanticoke Indians have a pow-wow every September. It's a blast, good food, meet new people..great weekend.

Delaware became a state in 1776, just two months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The capital was moved from New Castle to Dover in 1777.

Delaware is known by the nickname of "The First State" due to the fact that on December 7, 1787, it became the first of the 13 original states to ratify the U.S. Constitution. “The First State” became the official State nickname on May 23, 2002.

Delaware's first constitution was adopted in 1792. The current constitution was adopted in 1897.

Let me work on the rest of the state. Moving up to Kent county, I lived in Camden for 12 years, worked in Dover for a while and now work in Smyrna which is in both Kent and New Castle counties. A big attraction (not for me) is Dover Downs.

The have slots.

And NASCAR, the "Monster Mile". I used to work about a quarter mile form here, on race days you couldn't get anywhere in Dover and I could hear the race from the basement of my building.

They also have horseracing here...

The capital of Delaware, as 411 said, is Dover.

I'd be remiss if I didn't show you some pics of my employ.

The Delaware State Police Headquarters is located in Dover...and I can't find an image of the building but I'll still post some.
Our museum...

The museum has some pretty cool stuff inside..a few old cars.

Now this is fun..rode in it a few times.

And last but not least...our patch.

My least favorite county is New Castle County..all the big cities of Delaware are there.

Wilmington, the largest city of Delaware.

New Castle, one of the nicer cities in this county, very old town charm.

Delaware City is full of fuel refineries.

Ok, I really don't like New Castle County so there you go.

The end of the tour of Delaware...who's next?

Great pics, Dawn! I love the outdoors and it looks like a place I want to visit someday. The wedding of your friend in the horse drawn carriage over that bridge must have been beautiful! Plus, I am jealous that you're close to the beach - my favorite vacation, hands down. Thanks for sharing the pictures!
