Titus 1:2 -
1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—
2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time,
The red words directly speak to confidence and assurance.
The blue words speak to when God made this promise of eternal life.
Note; there are no strings attached, as the Arminians would have it.
In fact, these verses strongly suggest that believing that eternal life can be lost is NOT part of the gospel message. From v.1, "the faith of God's elect" includes the "hope (confidence) of eternal life".
So, Arminians, who claim that salvation/eternal life can be lost, show that they DON'T have confidence in God's promise. While they understand that God promises eternal life, they don't have any confidence that God's promise is without conditions of those given eternal life.
Yet, there are no verses that include any conditions for those who have been given the gift of eternal life. Possession of eternal life is based on believing. So, from the MOMENT one believes in Christ as Savior, the believer possesses eternal life.
That's why Jesus said in John 10:28 that recipients of eternal life (no added conditions) shall never perish.
And we all know that Arminians don't believe that recipients of eternal life shall never perish.
They place a variety of conditions upon the recipient to meet in order to never perish.
