Here let me ask you again as you did not answer the question you were quoting from. Where in the scriptures does it say Sunday or the first day of the week is "the Lords day" from Revelation 1:10? - Silence...

    Your response here...
And how does any of the above explain away that Gods' law does not give us a knowledge of what sin is when broken? - It doesn't according to the scriptures already provided sin which is defined in the scriptures as breaking anyone of Gods' 10 commandments *James 2:10-11 and not believing and following what Gods' Word says *Romans 14:23 is in agreement with what Paul is saying in Romans 3:20 and Romans 7:7 that is through the law we have a knowledge of what sin is when we break the law which is in agreement with John that says sin is the transgression or breaking the law in 1 John 3:4. So what is your argument for trying to promote the false teachings of lawlessness (without law or no law) you have not because according to the scriptures, sin is breaking anyone of God's 10 commandments and not believing and following what Gods' Word says (see James 2:10-11; 1 John 3:4; Romans 14:23; Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7). God's Word does not teach lawlessness (without law or no law)

Then we have Gods' Word that says...
    • Hebrews 10:1-5
[1], For THE LAW HAVING A SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, and not the very image of the things, can never WITH THOSE SACRIFICES WHICH THEY OFFERED YEAR BY YEAR continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2], For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshipers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
[3], But IN THOSE SACRIFICES there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
[4], For IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND OF GOATS should take away sins.
[5], Why when he comes into the world, he said, SACRIFICE AND OFFERING you would not, but a body have you prepared me.
[6], IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN you have had no pleasure.
[7], Then said I, SEE, I COME IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME, TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.
      [8], Above when he said, SACRIFICE AND OFFERING AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERING FOR SIN YOU WOULD NOT, neither had pleasure therein; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW;
[9], Then said he, See, I come to do your will, O God. HE TAKES AWAY THE FIRST, THAT HE MAY ESTABLISH THE SECOND.
    ..........

Our opinions do not really mean much in Gods' eyes. Only God's Word us true and we should believe and follow them over the teachings and traditions of men that lead us away from Gods' Word to break the commandments of God *Romans 3:4; Acts of the Apostles 5:29.

Well... Looking closely, I see: the law having a shadow.
This is not the same as saying that the law is a shadow, or that some laws are shadows.

You have to use this strategy, even though it is not legitimate.

This is one of the subtle means posters use to censor arguments that threaten their position.

You use this "there is no verse" strategy, as does SabbathBlessings.

And we all know why: if, as you should, you do not limit what "counts" as legitimate Biblical evidence, your position on this would be undermined.

The reason is clear: the overall sweep of the narrative shows that Jesus is the "true rest", the thing that the Sabbath was pointing to all along. You have to think it a coincidence that Jesus rises on the 1st day of a new week, hinting at new creation that render the markers of the old covenant obsolete.

Yes, there is no single "verse" that says "Jesus is the New Sabbath. But there is this expression that I believe is most apt:

The one who has ears, let him hear

What is really sin for those of us who are New Covenant Christians. The best answer I have found is found in 1Jn3.

Not one word about keeping the old covenant Sabbath in the following. If we cannot receive the Holy Spirit unless we keep the Sabbath why isn't mentioned in the following truth filled words?

3 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

    More on Love and Hatred
11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

We have been told that we do not have the Holy Spirit in us because we do not keep all of the ten commandments. We are, as on poster put, it of Babylon according to one poster. I have a terrible time swallowing his theory and the above scripture tells me I belong to the truth not by keeping ritual old covenant laws, nor eating certain foods and not by keeping some man made tithing system. It tells me that if I believe in Jesus, believe He died for me and made me white as new snow and if I love all of His children as He commanded in Jn 15:10-14 I belong to the truth as written in verse 19.

All of the long drawn out posts in this thread are for naught. They are meaningless in the light of the new and better covenant Jesus gave all mankind which has superseded the covenant given only to one nation, Israel. Eph 2:15
by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Anyone that tries to tell us we have to obey old covenant ritual laws like Sabbath observance has yet to see the truths found in the New Testament.

Perhaps you need to look a bit more closely...
      [8], Above when he said, SACRIFICE AND OFFERING AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERING FOR SIN YOU WOULD NOT, neither had pleasure therein; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW;
[9], Then said he, See, I come to do your will, O God. HE TAKES AWAY THE FIRST, THAT HE MAY ESTABLISH THE SECOND.
    TAKEN FROM THE SCRIPTURES ABOVE...
    • The law having a shadow of things to come in regards to those sacrifices offered year by year - Hebrews 10:1
    • The context is the laws of animal sacrifices and sin offerings - Hebrews 10:1-6
    • These shadows laws from the volume of the BOOK (context sin offerings) are pointing to Christ - Hebrews 10:7
    • The law being referred to is the laws of animal sacrifices and sin offerings - Hebrews 10:8
    • These laws of animal sacrifices are taken away because they are fulfilled in Christ and a change of covenants -Hebrews 10:9
    ..........

The "shadow laws" of animal sacrifices written in the Mosaic book of the covenant all point to Jesus and are fulfilled in the new covenant to who they pointed to.

    Hope this is helpful.

Let's talk more when you want to talk scripture. Until then we will have to agree to disagree. I hope only the best for you. God's Word does not teach lawlessness (without law or there is no law).

It says The law having a shadow.

    It's like these two statements:

    Joe is a bicycle.

Hi Bob nice to see you again. For me I prefer what the scriptures teach and that us sin is defined in the scriptures, as breaking anyone of God's 10 commandments and not believing and following what Gods' Word says (see James 2:10-11; 1 John 3:4; Romans 14:23; Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7), so I do not really know what your argument is here.

Unresponsive to the scriptures in the post you are quoting from that are in disagreement with you in post # 107 linked. Of course we can seek to try and explain away God's Word or we can choose to believe what Gods Word says. I prefer the latter.

Amen to believing in what God's word says!

    The law having a shadow...
    Doesn't mean
    The law is a shadow.

    Just like
Sally having a cup of coffee...
    Doesn't mean
Sally is a cup of coffee.

May the Lord bless you and keep you!

I see so in your view the laws of animal sacrifices and sin offerings from the Mosaic book of the law were not shadow laws pointing to Jesus and we should still continue them? I do not get that understanding of the scriptures as already shown from post # 107 linked that you are unwilling to respond to and are seeking to explain away with your words that are not Gods' Word. The scripture literally says these were "shadow laws of things to come" which are in disagreement with you. I prefer what the scriptures actually say in Hebrews 10:1-12 and believe them as shown why in post # 107 linked

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. (Galatians 2:21)

After further review, I see that some paraphrase-oriented translations say The law is a shadow. The more literal ones use some form of "has".

    Hebrews 10:1 - Bible Gateway

But if we're going to go with a paraphrase, I like The Message:
The old plan was only a hint of the good things in the new plan. Since that old “law plan” wasn’t complete in itself, it couldn’t complete those who followed it. No matter how many sacrifices were offered year after year, they never added up to a complete solution. If they had, the worshipers would have gone blissfully on their way, no longer dragged down by their sins.
Bible Gateway passage: Hebrews 10 - The Message

That really brings out the evolving narrative or unfolding story of the Bible.

The central focus on the law, instead of Jesus really makes it a relevant verse.
