Peace in Christ.
What is the sign of His coming....that is, PRESENCE?
Mat 24:3 KJV
(3) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
We have a “more sure word of prophecy”. We have a more personal, convincing sign of the Son of man’s presence.
When the Lord speaks to us (interpreting the Scriptures in the Spirit of Truth), we have His sign appear within our very own once-darkened hearts: the arising “day star”….that is, the bright and morning star.
This is the sign of the Son of man in “heaven”…..in those who set their affections on things that rule in heaven above: peace, joy, kindness, love, patience, etc.
Only they (those who dwell in those things of “heaven” above here on earth) will see the sign of the Son’s presence within their hearts.
This sign within our very hearts is the witness of God about His Son whom we are to hear as He opens up the Scriptures to our hearing ears: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”.
The disciples on the holy mount heard a voice come from heaven.
We hear the voice from heaven speaking to us via the interpretation of the Scriptures as spoken in the Spirit of Truth and we see the sign in our own hearts that this is the true Son speaking to us. This is the witness of God about His Son that will shine within our hearts.
The private interpretation of the Scriptures as preached by earthly men do not have this inward effect upon the heart. They must use outward “signs” and wonders in order to deceive us.
2Pe 1:17-21 KJV
(17) For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
(18) And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
(19) We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
(20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
(21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Our citizenship is in Heaven right here on earth when we only seek those things which are above.
Those who “dwell upon the earth” are those who do not focus on heavenly things as they let the earthly wisdom rule them: envy, strife, hatred of others, wrath, etc. They do not focus on the things above but are bogged down in their own envy and strife.
Col 3:1-2 KJV
(1) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
(2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Those who “dwell on the earth” do not mortify those things that they dwell on: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Col 3:5-6 KJV
(5) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
(6) For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
The sign of the Son of man appears (shines) in “heaven”…in those who set their affection on things above. They will know when they are in the presence of the Son when they hear Him speak. That sign….or indication of His presence…is the “bright and morning star” arising in their very own hearts. They will rejoice when they will hear the Son speaking.
The “tribes of the earth” though will mourn when they see the Son of man coming on the “clouds of heaven” with power and great glory. They will see the outward result of the preaching of the true Son as many (clouds of people) will assemble in Him when they hear His Word of Truth.
The “tribes of the earth” will mourn when they will see the “clouds” of people who will believe in what the Son preaches to them. Their joy will be darkened. They will shake in fear when they see this. Those who are in charge of the churches now will mourn. Their joy shall be darkened ....and they will fear what is coming upon the clouds of people who will rejoice in what they hear. Their rule over the people of God is coming to an end.
Mat 24:29-31 KJV
(29) Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
(30) And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
(31) And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
We are compassed about with a great “cloud of witnesses”.
Heb 12:1 KJV
(1) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
The Lord interprets the words of the eyewitnesses of the Scriptures. We are caught up with them (the biblical saints) in “clouds” of people. The world shall see the effect of the Son’s preaching as we shall assemble in the Word of Truth. We are made partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light....in the knowledge of God.
Col 1:12-13 KJV
(12) Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
(13) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
They….the saints of the Bible….the great cloud of eyewitnesses….all died without receiving the promise (eternal life). They without us should not be complete. We are completed when we hear the Son’s interpretation of the eyewitnesses’ words in the Spirit of Truth….and BELIEVE in Him. We are to hear Him…the Son whom the Father is well pleased in.
Heb 11:39-40 KJV
(39) And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
(40) God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
We are caught up together in "clouds" in their words when we hear the Son’s interpretation of them.
Those who “dwell on the earth” will only see the sign of Jonah as they will see the repentance of those who will hear and believe as the Son comes on the “clouds” of the people who dwell on things above. The Ninevites repented at the preaching of Jonah....but not a greater One preaches. They will outwardly see the powerful influence of the Son's preaching on many people (the clouds of heaven) who will believe when they hear His words of life and spirit.
