Though seeing as how international headlines mocked Donald's election & millions of folks outside of the US joined in solidarity to march against him the day after his inauguration this isn't much of a surprise.

THE WORLD HAS LOST CONFIDENCE IN AMERICA'S LEADERSHIP SINCE DONALD TRUMP WAS ELECTED, PEACE INDEX SHOWS

Ever since President Donald Trump was voted into office, global confidence in U.S. leadership has plummeted. That's according to this year's Global Peace Index.

The 2019 Global Peace Index, which was published on Wednesday, showed that while global approval of leadership in Germany, China and Russia has been steadily on the rise since 2016, approval of U.S. leadership has seen a dramatic decline.

In 2016, confidence in U.S. leadership was at 45 percent, but fell below 35 percent by 2017. Since then, Steve Killelea (founder of the Institute for Economics and Peace, which produces the Global Peace Index) said, approval has started to plateau, seeing a subtle uptick. However, confidence levels in U.S. leadership still sit below approval of leadership in both China and Germany.

Overall, Killelea pointed out, levels of support for U.S. leadership have fallen 17 percentage points since 2009. That was when Barack Obama entered the Oval Office, sending approval ratings soaring to 50 percent.

Whereas Obama was "very popular internationally and had historically high levels," Killelea told Newsweek, "the election of President Trump saw a lot of negative press."

As I have been saying for some time now, America is losing its status of world leader.

<shrug> There seems to be about 30-40 percent of Americans who seem just fine with that. The rest of the world is looking around for the emergence of the new world leader. Right now, I see China, Russia and the European Union as viable contenders.

If we want to maintain freedoms, we should all be hoping the European Union becomes the new world leader.

The practical effects of Trump's attitude to the rest of the world are filtering through as we speak.

Pacific island nations like Vanuatu, the Solomons, Fiji etc. are very unhappy with the US withdrawal from the Paris Accords and Trumps dismissal of climate change. This at a time when low lying islands are being impacted by more intense weather and higher storm surge due to rising seas. The UN General Secretary recently met with Pacific nation leaders to highlight the problems they're facing as coastal infrastructure crumbles. The word 'evacuation' has been mentioned although Pacific leaders do not support the idea. The impression is that the US has ceased to care.

The result? With the US leadership withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, denying climate change and pulling up the drawbridge, Pacific island countries are being approached by China offering technical support and cheap loans for infrastructure building. There is a view that, once indebted, these nations will be more amenable to ceding strategic advantage to China in return for debt foregiveness. This extends the range of Chinese influence and raises the real possibility of Chinese military bases across the Pacific - once regarded as America's private pond. This gradual extension of Chinese influence is consistent with China's Belt & Road initiative and its support to African nations.

These concerns are real. It was for this reason that Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, made the Solomons his first overseas visit within days of winning the recent election and announced increased Australian aid for infrastructure building.

These are concerns for 60-70 percent of Americans. The rest just want to make spit balls and throw them at people. The idea that leadership requires commitment and sacrifice just doesn't enter into their computations.

Global warming is real and the dangers of it are also real. America's failure to accept a leadership role in what could easily be a battle for survival of life as we know it will result in the rest of the world shunning us and accepting our enemies as their new leaders.
