Everybody has that one friend who can’t get enough of the heat on his food. He soaks his wings in some ungodly concoction that’s hotter-than-hell and downs jalapenos with ghost peppers like they’re breath mints. But, even those with an iron lining in their stomach will want to steer clear of the “Dragon’s Breath Pepper.”

The pepper was developed by Mike Smith in the United Kingdom. Mike owns a plant store across the pond where he worked on the pepper with the help of researchers at the University of Nottingham.

it's like there's an arm race going on. The person who developed the Carolina Reaper claimed that he had a couple of even hotter peppers in his back pocket just in case someone beats his Reaper...

Yeah... eating stuff that hot is ridiculous... won't be long until someone with Asthma or bad acid reflux eats one of those peppers and literally dies from it...

This is not for me. I think ketchup is a little spicy and mild salsa is as spicy as I can ever go. Guaranteed this would kill me....yikes

I got a small piece of a hot pepper on my lip once in a Chinese restaurant. It felt like someone put out a cigarette on my lip. I couldn't eat for at least 20 minutes it hurt so bad. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had actually eaten it.

I grew Carolina Reaper peppers last summer (2016).
Just slicing into one can clear the kitchen.. and next door living room.
I ate a small piece straight up. I wouldn't advise anyone to do that.

I ended up drying and making pepper flakes out of most of them.
I smoked some and made a sauce - which is fantastic on chicken-wings. :)

Hot peppers are good for lung health, and typically I believe the hotter the better. But such advice most likely did not take into account these insane peppers. I wonder what pepper would be that cut off point where you maximize the lung health benefits without going to extremes and actually risking your health??

I prefer the natural not peppers like the Habanero and Scotch Bonnet. When people are genetically engineering these things to be borderline weapons of mass destruction, they are no longer enjoyable to me.

Agreed. There should be limits. Natural breeding, thik hai. Stuff you mess with in labs, no.
