    Romans 10:8
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):

according to this scripture i like the WOF title more than full gospel.....

and i personally like the title new creation better than christian....

so wof...christian.... new creation.... can all be found in the BIBLE....
everyone chooses for themselves what they identify most with......

and actually in real life..... i don't use tags.... i avoid tags if at all possible..... i don't like to be boxed in by a tag in real life....

but here it works better WITH TAGS..... so tags it is.....

agreed. there is a time and a place for everything.

and in this time and in this place we are WOF with tags.
    Paul says it this way:

    1 Corinthians 9:20-23
"When I am with the Jews, I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with those who follow the Jewish laws, I do the same, even though I am not subject to the law, sot that i can bring them to Christ. When I am with the gentiles who do not have the Jewish law, I fit in with them as much as i can. in this way I gain their confidence and bring them to Christ. But i do not discard the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.
When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ. I do all this to spread the Good News, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings."

please note that Paul's main goal is 'to bring them to Christ." and in order to do so he worked as much as possible within the framework of the place he found people who were not already with Christ.

we are here in the WOF forum not because we need to be 'brought to Christ' but because we are already one with Him in the Word, and so we draw near to celebrate Him together as one body with one purpose.

the teaching we do here is correctly called edifying and equipping, in that we stir one another up and share the gospel together so that we might all go on to more and better things in the Lord that He has planned for us to do.

My pastor tells a story of a man who came to him once saying:
"Pastor, I was praying this morning and the Lord wants you to do thus and so."
and our pastor looked at him and smiled and said,
"Funny that--He and i were talking just this morning, and He never mentioned a word of it to me."

we are like that in this forum.
We know the sound of His voice and His words because they are on our lips and in our hearts. But a stranger comming to us with different words and a different voice we will not follow.

Sounds right.... I'm probably thinking more in terms of "if this were a perfect world"...which it is not, therefore guidelines have to be established.

WOF people are attacked more than any other group on forums. Trust me, it is over a decade of experience on forums that I speak. It is great that CF has a safe place for WOF people to post without the fear of getting jumped on. This section and my forum are the only places I know of that it is WOF safe.

Whatever happened to speaking God's Word and casting you care upon the Lord???
(let those that like it get happy...let those that don't like it, not like it)

That's how most of the 'ol timers roll...they couldn't give a fat rat's what other people thought about it one way or another as all the worry / anxiety is just another distraction of the enemy.

Well, in a general setting I couldn't agree with you more.

In a confined setting, then the context changes...and so does my agreement. Here's why:

You go to church (I assume) and that church is not "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" (I assume). But how would you like it if a group of temple priests from the local Mormon church came to your church and interrupted the service with their take on the Bible while your pastor was preaching?? And no, this isn't an extreme example.

You see, CF was set up with congregational forums.... congregational.... congregations. These are groups of people who believe and think and teach and worship and praise in a consistent manner to one another -- and that way may be very different from how the 'ol times roll.

Should I be allowed to go tell the Calvinists that I don't agree with them and that I think they are wrong and they need to quit teaching all that TULIP stuff IN THEIR CONGREGATIONAL FORUM??? No. They have a right to fellowship around whatever theology and doctrines they wish. Same here in WoF.

    ---

Now, here's were you and I MAY agree. Do we need an icon to tell who can talk and who can simply read? Now the line blurs a little. If we let the non-WoFer talk, then talk turns into opinion and opinion turns into teaching and teaching is, well, sort of like proselytizing. And this simply can not be tolerated.....here.

In fact, there are places where such conversation can take place: IF BOTH SIDES WANT IT. But the congregational forums are to be safe houses. It is just that simpe.

How to allow open discussion without the discussion turning into teaching of wrong believes is the tricky part. And if the trick can't be mastered, then the safest solution is to tighten the grip and put a guard at the door looking for an icon. I don't really want to do this; I'd like to see Christian people be Christian people and follow the rules. Agree??

remember, be careful what you put before your eyes. Ask God first whether you are to go and see or not.

Yes, pray, and when I get there I may leave right away! Or I may be there at the right time by divine appointment. One thing's for sure - I'll know. I can say this confidently because the Greater One is in me, the One who knows all things. Wisdom and discretion will preserve me. :)

I's not like WOF is the only forum with this guideline. All congregational forums have the same stipulations. And the easiest way to figure out who should be where is an icon. If I want to talk about WOF issues with others of like mind then I know I can come here and get opinions from those who value the same things as me. I don't want to come here and be assaulted with beliefs from Catholics of Baptists or atheists on some issues. With a site this big, no one has time to babysit each member and figure out if they are this or that. Icons may not be ideal but they are easy and if you don't like being labeled then don't be, but don't make a fuss when you can see clearly what the result will be of that decision. If you can't talk to people without trying to push an agenda (teaching) then you are lacking in the basic skill of just being a friend and fellowshipping and quite frankly, if you can't be a friend to anyone then why should anyone want to know your teachings?

So, what if one doesn't "teach" and just makes an occasional comment or asks the occasional question...is this allowed?

    Absolutely.

    To expand on that:

If someone comes into the WoF forum and asks a question, you should not be the first (or major) one to answer, since you don't identify yourself as WoF. You can certainly comment (non-teaching) or ask a question of the WoF answer for clarification.

If your statements are "challenged" as non-WoF, the CF rules say that you cannot argue them here. Make a request to the poster who "challenges" you to go to a debate forum to talk it out; just not here -- because if it continues here it will likely be petitioned to be removed.

And most definitely someone without (or with!) the WoF icon can not proselytize, and try to convert the members here to another belief system.

Isaiah 58:4, and Romans 1:29 says "debate" is not a good thing, so it's not of God, nor is it the will of God that we partake in strife.

    H4683 - a quarrel, contention, debate, strife.
from H5327 - a primitive root; properly, to go forth, i.e. (by implication) to be expelled, and (consequently) desolate; causatively, to lay waste; also (specifically), to quarrel: KJV -- be laid waste, runinous, strive (together).

G2054 - a quarrel, wrangling, contention, debate, strife, variance.

    LOL. :p

Let's take a look at these verses a little closer (and then some). Here is the KJV:
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
It's interesting that of the versions I have available to me quickly (about 7 of 'em) the KJV is the only one that says "debate." Interesting enough, even the New King James Version took the word "debate" out and replaced it with "strife."

Let's look at it in an easier English translation (CEV) (you can read either, they mean the same thing after all):
Rom 1:28 Since these people refused even to think about God, he let their useless minds rule over them. That's why they do all sorts of indecent things. 29They are evil, wicked, and greedy, as well as mean in every possible way. They want what others have, and they murder, argue, cheat, and are hard to get along with. They gossip, 30 say cruel things about others, and hate God. They are proud, conceited, and boastful, always thinking up new ways to do evil. These people don't respect their parents. 31 They are stupid, unreliable, and don't have any love or pity for others. 32 They know God has said that anyone who acts this way deserves to die. But they keep on doing evil things, and they even encourage others to do them.
Ok, once again, let's "rightly divide the Word" instead of just using a concordance to find the word "debate." ;)

Who is Paul talking about here: v28 -- "these people refused even to think about God." Hmm. This is ungodly athiests. In fact if you go back to v27 you find it is about homosexuals: "They stopped wanting to have sex with women and had strong desires for sex with other men."

What does it say about them? It says that they argue and cheat and hate God. They argue against God. They aren't seeking truth, but rather they are running from the truth.

And Isaiah 58:4 says: "You even get angry and ready to fight." These are contentious people. Isaiah told us in verse 1 that these "turned against the Lord." Doesn't sound like us, KM.

    Now let's look at this:
Jud 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Contend. Interesting word if you want to study Greek, KM.

Contend. Greek: (επαγωνίζομαι) epagōnizomai. It means to struggle for, to contend for, to fight, to labor fervently, to strive. It suggests a literal fight as for a prize, a figurative contention as in a debate, and to endeavor so that something is accomplished.

We are to fight when someone tries to take the Gospel message, as Paul says in v3 that was delievered to the saints, and they take that message and try to pervert it.

If two people disagree on the Word, we are to contend for the correct meaning. We are not to say "oh, you believe your way and I'll believe mine." Rather we should make sure that each person knows completely why the other thinks the way they do. In this manner the truth may be revealed from the disagreement.

What we need to do for sure is to make certain that when two believers are contending in such a way that it stay ordered and under control, quiet and not argumentative for the sake of argument. In other words, the only blood that should be in a fight here should be the Blood of Jesus Christ. For as Paul said in 2 Cor 12:20 about his soon appearance in Corinth:
2Co 12:20 I am afraid that when I come, we won't be pleased with each other. I fear that some of you may be arguing or jealous or angry or selfish or gossiping or insulting each other. I even fear that you may be proud and acting like a mob.

Our contentions should not be filled with jealous and angry arguing, selfishness or insults. It should not be like a riotuous mob (as on CARM -- oops!).

In other words, contend for the Word, but have fun doing it. :p

i agree..... NO strife.... arguing..... quarelling..... name calling.....

only talking to find out why the other person believes what they do......

and then discussing the WORD in a FUN way so that ALL of us can rightly divide the TRUTH.....

i want to know the TRUTH of what GOD REALLY says and means on EVERYTHING..... it should be FUN..... NOBODY knows it ALL...... but ALL TOGETHER we can learn waaaaaaaaaay more...... and get closer and closer to the TRUTH on ALL BIBLE issues.....

insults..... debating..... name calling..... are not by the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT..... it is not love..... and we are COMMANDED to speak the truth in love......

we have yet to see what kind of awesome discussions we could have here if ALL parties would KEEP IT FUN and REFRAIN from UNLOVING speech..... imagine the TRUTH we could discover and walk in...... imagine the unity we could come to if we kept these 2 thoughts in mind as we discuss GOD'S POWERFUL LIFE-GIVING WORD.....

we are one body..... whether we agree or not..... it's bad for the body to beat up on itself...... and that is what we do everytime someone goes beyond FUN DISCUSSION and LOVING SPEECH..... and beats on someone for what they believe.....

agreed. the Spirit gave me the same scripture, Jud 1:3. :amen:
that we are to contend for not about the faith.

there are many out there who have a part of the word, but are missing either the meaning or the application of the word. Anyone can quote the bible, but not all can understand or apply it as God wants us to.

it is to those people that we are to go and 'contend' for a right understanding. We do this not for our own sake, but so that they can come into the full knowledge and correct application of God's word along with us. And then we can come together, rejoicing together as brothers and sisters and give all glory to our God.
